Chasing my Dreams!
Hi everyone! I'm a new face painter in Utah. My friend and I are both stay at home moms and have decided to start a little face painting business. I know it's not as simple as that but we are both so excited to be doing something we love. I have some serious respect for the art! Both my friend and I consider ourselves artists but face painting techniques definitely take practice! Right now we are just trying to get established and I hope to at least eventually make back the money I invested. I kind of went a little crazy because I was so excited! Now I'm hoping ends meet this month, oops! Anyway, any advice would be amazing! I think I may be in the same area as Denise Cold based on a post i saw of her tattoo designs. So, Denise, any tips for a fellow Utah artist? It seems I could learn a lot from you. I have no idea how to tag her. Thanks and I hope to become a regular!

Re: Chasing my Dreams!
Welcome to the wonderful world of face painting. My advice. Practice, practice, practice and when you think you've mastered it practice some more! LOL! Start with learning the sponging basics and tear drops. FabaTV is a great resource for learning as well as Youtube. Here is my channel. https://www.youtube.com/shawnadelreal Although I don't have too many beginner videos there is a wealth of information in each video. Best wishes for a successful new business.

Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice!
There is a Utah Face Painters Facebook group that you can join. Athena Stovall is the keeper at the gate. That's where we announce classes and jams in the area.
I kind of have a policy of not helping my competition break into the market but there is a wealth of information that I've shared and others have here, on the forum, and on Youtube there are a ton of tutorials for the actually face painting designs. I too love FABAtv but I would probably wait a bit for that...maybe as a reward when you get a few jobs under your belt.
I didn't really make money for awhile. It went back into the business for a long time. I feel lucky that hubby has supported me through the craziness and still does.
Good luck and maybe we'll meet at a jam soon.

Denise,
That totally makes sense and I in no way intend to step on your toes at all. You and I are in totally different leagues anyway. I'm just looking to paint at birthday parties and small events so I can do something I really enjoy and hopeful get paid enough to support it. I am very excited to really get into it and learn everything I can. It's been a long time since I felt passionate and excited about something.

It's very addictive for sure (hence the spending most of my first year's profit on paint.)

Welcome to the forum and I second what Shawna said, practice, practice, practice. There is always something that needs work. Oh and lucky you to be in the area of both Athena and Denise. What a jam that would be.
