Denise Cold!
Is AMAZING!
She is the reason I just ordered a whole ton of Starblends (I only had white, black, and red). I can't believe the fantastic versatility that starblends offers.
So, though I have never really talked to you... THANK YOU! Your videos make face painting so much fun!
That is all!

Re: Denise Cold!
Wow! Thanks. I hope you enjoy them. Every gig I'm very grateful for them. Have you joined the Starblend group on Facebook? That's where I usually post my new Starblend stuff and lots of other folks too. I did a werewolf last night with them and he came back for a "redux" because he was scaring everyone...it looked really cool and natural.

I'm totally going to check out that group too! If we could all just continue gushing over Denise for a moment...I just came across your chap stick sushi tutorial and made my first two this weekend! So fun!! Thank you for your willingness to share your awesome tips! :-)

Re: Denise Cold!
Lol, I will let you know if there are any I can't take. My schedule is starting to fill in pretty good. I need to play with them more but they seem so sheer! I actually considered just selling them...
Re: Denise Cold!
I have them and use them off and on. I really like them for little little ones, seems easier for them and they don't feel it on their skin so much so they stay still better. Denise is so good with them. Her faces look so real life sometimes it freaks me out.
Re: Denise Cold!
Great now I am debating ordering for the upcoming festival season.... What are the musts other than Blk, Wht, and red???
Re: Denise Cold!
I would start with those three because there is a learning curve and a love hate thing with Starblends. With black, white and red you can make: skull, pirate, Spiderman, Darth Maul, Angry Bird, white tiger, zebra, Hello Kitty, panda, zombie mouth, kitty, bunny, cow, puppie, wolf (if you blend in the sponge for gray), swan, bumblebee mask. They are also great as just a starting point for rainbow kitties and tigers, just put in the eyes and muzzle and the rest in paints. You can do shading with them on top of paints or just the eye sockets on dragons and monsters to avoid painting eyes.
I didn't know that I would love them so much. Other people on the forum convinced me by sharing their pictures of their quick full face designs and it fit right in with my philosophy of "no more cheek art" and trying to do full faces quickly. After I started figuring out how much easier it was to shade and contour with the lollipops vs sponging paints (and easier to fix if you messed up) then it opened up a whole world for me...I could start making designs look more like the professional painters with half the work (or so it seemed to me.)
They last a lot longer than paints too. There really isn't much waste and no bother with getting the consistency right. They definitely aren't perfect and I'm not giving up my pretty paints but especially for animal designs and boys they are my go-to now.

Re: Denise Cold!
Thanks I think I will do those there and pink as I have been wanting a blush solution.
Re: Denise Cold!
I clicked on the group too, thanks for sharing. I have a drawer full of powders and starblends that I almost NEVER use! Time to really start learning. Oh and Denise, you are amazing.
That is a class that would be good to take. If someone like Denise traveled about teaching a class on Starblends, I would take it for sure.

Me too Jody, I would take one of your classes too. You are also amazing at what you do. I always enjoy seeing your new faces. So detailed and realistic.

Re: Denise Cold!
Starblends are awesome! Denise also shows how you can fix a cake if it breaks and how to make custom colors. The pink is great to have also, nice easy base. I still haven’t bougt the blue, green and purple but maybe will one day.
I also heard that you can aggitate the powder a little (to loosen it) if it is not showing up opaque enough. I suppose a stipple sponge would be great for that.
BTW using the black starblends with a stipple sponge makes a much more realistic 5’O’Clock shadow on pirates than black paint does.
The learning curb is definitely in how to keep the powder from falling but after using the lollipops a few times, you kinda figure it out. It’s very much like applying pressed powder. I think I read that one woman uses those plastic covers hairdressers use to keep from dropping powder and glitter on her client’s clothing.
Starblends are great for using with stencils too - especially if you want a subtle transfer of the design on the stencil.

Re: Denise Cold!
Starblends and I have a love/hate relationship.
Right now I am in the hate phase.... Except for the red for Spidey, they don't show up well on darker skin... and that's a good percentage of my clientele.

Re: Denise Cold!
Corey really loads it up and gets good results on darker skin, even purple. Makes me wonder if I do load heavier than most or if I go over it a lot more than other painters.
And I agree, Jody is A-MAZ-ING. She can transform herself into anything!
