Sponge Daubers
OK I have a new love that I am mating with my BAM stencils--little stencil sponge daubers that fit on your fingers! They are sooo much easier for me to work with in tight spaces/little faces, and I can see exactly which part of the stencil I am using instead of the harried hit and miss when I am trying to go fast. They are not big enough if you are using a split cake, but if you use a couple different ones with different colors, you can achieve a similar effect. One other thing I relly like about them is that you can press the moisture out with your thumb after you've dipped them in water & have the perfect amount to swipe on a dry cake & work with.

Re: Sponge Daubers
I have these, have not used them yet, I forgot! duh...glad to know they are working for you!
Re: Sponge Daubers
Brain lapses...I am convinced that those and weight gain have something to do with paint toxins...
Re: Sponge Daubers
SEE...this is another reason I LOVE the forum. My new Avatar was me, trying to paint several kids on different basketball teams QUICKLY for "Spirit Day". My stencils, in that atmosphere, drove me NUTS! On the boys, I gave up using my star stencil & did them free hand. If I'd had those sponges, I bet I could have had better control. Looking at my Avatar, either I moved or my granddaughter did. Her rt cheek got smushed! Thank you, Anniel! I'll hopefully find these @ Michael's or online. I need to practice more w/stencils & use less water.
Re: Sponge Daubers
Hobby Lobby has 3 for $3, and you can use the -40% coupon...gonna snag a few more myself!
Re: Sponge Daubers
I'm so jealous that you guys have Michael's, Hobby Lobby and other places. The finger-daubers do sound fabulous for stencil work, though - I'll keep an eye out for them in the UK!

Store that have stamping/stencils are probably your best bet. I would think that they'd have 'em. They are sold wholesale out of China I think.
Re: Sponge Daubers
Does anyone know if these finger daubers are available in Australia?

Re: Sponge Daubers
Just a tip from a newbie - I made my own daubers because I didn't want to pay $4 for a pack when I only use the big ones - I bought a pack of toothpick containers ($2 for 4 at Neds). Took the lids off, stuffed a cork in there and then stuffed a square piece of sponge in. I take the sponge out after a gig and throw it in with my other sponges. So easy and cheap, and easier to clean not the same as the little finger ones but good if you want bigger ones for wuppies etc
Re: Sponge Daubers
Could you post a picture of that? Seems interesting to me, because I don't use daubers since they're so impractical to cleanfacepaintingbydanielle wrote:Just a tip from a newbie - I made my own daubers because I didn't want to pay $4 for a pack when I only use the big ones - I bought a pack of toothpick containers ($2 for 4 at Neds). Re: Sponge Daubers
i bought 2 packages of the 3 piece set of daubers that your finger fits into from hobby lobby and today I found a 2 piece set of daubers on a stick (1 tiny, 1 medium) at Walmart in the clearence for 75 cents, i bought the four packages I could find. I also some cut a huge sponge roller to use for facepainting, and at the dollar tree found some smal black ones that may work. i'm gonna try tomorrow, if it does then super a package of 10 cut in half is 20 for $1. Anyway to save some money.

Re: Sponge Daubers
I can't post a link yet as I am still new. But if you google DIY sponge daubers on youtube, this lady makes them with PVC pipe and makup sponges. Don't know if it will work for FP, but i guess any type of sponge can be inserted to your preference.

Heres a pic where you can see the daubers Sorry its not the best pic of them, its all Ive got lol. Theyre on the left, the sponges in plastic with corks
Literally all I do is stuff the sponges in, and adjust them til theyre round. Works a treat.

Re: Sponge Daubers
that's a brilliant idea Danielle!
One thing to consider with the pre-made daubers you will have more control on the pressure you can exert and the moisture you can squeeze out if you've soaked the applicator somehow. (I am one of those less than thoughtful painters when I get pressured, and have had to quickly rethink several designs to rectify that!) If you affordability is an issue, you can always do just a few & use them on the colors you use most in your stenciling. (I am a trier, I will invest a little here--couple of stencils a couple of daubers a glitter gel...and see if I like the technique & would use it consistently before I go whole hog into major purchasing.)

I use the colour roll refills as a dauber. Hope you know what I mean.
Here is a link to a pic.

They are very cheap and easy too clean. And they fits in the colourblock or artycakes.
But I can get only one size here in Germany. I also have the finger daubers and I like they for small things.
Love too search for things to use for my kit, the only thing I canĀ“t get here are the icecube makers, that some of you use for brushes. ;-(
