Post by leapinglizards Sat Oct 31, 2009 5:45 pm

HELLO!

I was a professional makeup artist for years but had been on a 15 year plus hiatus. Just decided to get back into things and do face painting and body painting and am in the process of relearning and testing out the various products and tools.

I just posted a bunch of items to my personal album and would love any comments and feedback.

Yes. Decided to try something new since airbrush was not used much when I got out of things, and I like many of the advantages it offers. Still see the need for doing some things by hand.

I was always a sanitation freak when I worked with theatre groups, so i DO like the sanitation aspect of air brush and with folks freking out over swine flu and bird flu and chimeny flu, I figure the more one can appear to avoid issues the better.

Finally have decided on the products and the air brush I like (After about $900 worth of rejects)

I do a lot of things in the entertainment field now, so already have a number of ideas on the marketing, presentation and "Show" aspect of it all. Mainly getting better with skills.

I like the cloud effects. Here those systems are quite expensive though. Would love to try at a convention.

I would say painting with brush, sponge and cake/cream makeups DEFINITELY has lower start up and over head!

One of the things that has really surprised me is that the Mehron Liquid, thinned down just a bit with SPA40 and water is better than many of the so-called air brush makeups. And it certainly is cheap! Takes way too long to dry if you brush it on for details.

I DO love Graftobian, but see that as being WAY too pricey for average every day use. Might also be a bit to harsh for children. WOuld definitely use it with higher end adults in the theatre makeup field.

I did try the new airbrush makeup called LUX and it was beyond a shadow of a doubt the worst of any I had used on so many levels.

I am talking to a few of the clubs around the area of doing high end body painting on their premises, with adults can use alcohol based inks for longevity.

One thing I am amazed at is how many of the face painting products, Wolfe, DFX, Snax and Mehron stain the skin. I have gotten to where if I am using anything intense color wise, I spray a primer coat first of white- if doing air brush that is.

I am still old fashioned though, I LIKE getting my hands dirty and using a brush... definitely takes a lot longer though.

Ok Rambled enough.

Question... I notice when I look at other people's galleries, 90% of the images do not show up. Also, within moments of posting my gallery images, one of my images appeared in someone else's gallery.

Any clues?

Hi there from the UK!
Don't worry about the pics. The forum has been upgraded or something and it hasn't worked with the pictures in our galleries. We'll just have to update them for you! I've only worked out how to delete them. Laughing

Welcome Dean! What part of Sunny Florida? I am in New Tampa/Wesley Chapel area.

I liked the clouds too! I can't get my airbrush system up and working right still. I want to get it out again and improve my skills since I am getting a lot of requests for it.

Take care and welcome to the forum!!!!

Most peoples' galleries are empty, but it seems like the gallery has randomly stuck pictures into other people's galleries too. Several of my pictures are in my gallery and randomly tossed about in others as well.

Ah the joys of technology!
