Cotton Candy Cakes and Cookies Empty Cotton Candy Cakes and Cookies

Post by veelux Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:40 am

Hi all,

I am putting a couple pics of a new idea I have for the cotton candy side of my business. My website will be updated tomorrow. I am wondering what you think of the idea. I am going to market them for parties and events and maybe even market them to places that have buffets as a dessert item. This is my first attempt but I think it turned out pretty well. I am not selling them here, just need some feedback.

Very interesting! It took me a minute to realize they are made out of cotton candy.
Neat concept!

The cake is pretty but cutting it ... is it easy?

I like the cookie idea a lot and think you could easily sell those at events.

Thanks everyone Very Happy You can pick up the cookies with your hands and the cake you can use the fork or just pick at it. I roll the floss with a rolling pin on a cutting board and use cooking cutters- its so easy and cuts very nicely with just a little wiggle, then they pop right out of the cutter. The cake also cuts very nicely with a sharp knife ( I use the stay sharp kitchen knives but any sharp chef's knife will do.) The cake is pretty compressed as you can see, so it's quite dense, but it still melts on your tongue like magic. I want to try some layer cakes and see how they hold up. The really cool thing is, you can decorate it with anything that you can poke into the floss, just like cake. I hear there is edible glitter too, that would be cool I think.

They last for about 5 days but have to be wrapped in a plastic bag or they start to melt sort of. Cotton candy hates any moisture or humidity and will start to harden and disolve and go really flat.

I also fill birthday party hats with floss so they look like big icecream cones. They can wear the hats after they eat the floss. They are bagged and tied with ribbons to match the color theme.
Kids love them.

Ok, I know the eating of huge cones of cotton candy is part of the experience...but I cannot imagine a hostess-- (especially an upscale one who has poured her life into her surroundings) not absolutely loving these!! (Be sure you don't undersell yourself in marketing them!)

I think the cookies are brilliant and could see people ordering those as favors for birthday parties and even a fun/funky wedding reception! Being a cake decorator I am more partial to cakes...love the look of the layers and who doesn't LOVE cotton candy?? I know I do!!!

Does it use a lot more to compress it like that though?? How much would you have to charge for one cookie in a bag??? Just curious!

Thank you for all the wonderful commets, you folks are very encouraging. I just had a request today for 3 "garbage bags" full of floss for a display at a bat mitzva, so I am going to give her some options with these new products!
Tina:
It does take quite a bit of floss to make the cakes. Each 9" cake like the one pictured is about 5-6 large bags of floss that you would see at the carnival. Because I mix my own sugar (ad flavor and color) my costs are much lower than someone buying the already made sugar. I can easily cut 12 or more cookies from the amount of one large bag (they do not need to be compressed so much.) For favors, One cookie in a bag with a ribbon will be priced -up to 100,they will be 1.50 ,and 101-1000 will be 1.25 I wouldn't go lower than 1.25 because the time for bagging etc. is the cruncher. I would like to offer Labels at some point as well and will when I have some funds for printers etc.
