New Tag Paints are Gooey
I just bought a few new cakes and some of my new Tag Split cakes (both the large and small) that have the pearls are very mushy and this was before any water was added. Now, with water being added, they are actually gooey and the brush will push them up to the side. Same with my tag neon I just got. What is the deal???

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
It will help if you leave them un-lidded. I stopped taking my lids on and off at every gig because it took so long and now put them in slim scrapbook cases that are only 1" thick. I open them and put the water, brushes, towels & wipes in the lid and then when the gig is done I put the other stuff away, fold and go. It's not shown here but I have a square of polar fleece on top so they don't shift around and I put that in the lid when I'm working.
You may also be wetting them too much. Neons especially shouldn't be gooey. Are you wetting your one-strokes with a spray bottle? Also make sure that you are only wetting enough to load your sponge and you cream all of the water off the cake. Anyway...keep the lids off for a few days and they will harden up but the pearls are always going to be a little softer.

my Tag black/white gets googy too---I thought it was too much water--I am having a hard time finding the water balance!

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I've actually had the lids off for a week and they are so soft it's crazy. I can barely touch it and my finger will sink into it.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I have several brands that do that. My Kryolan has had little kids fingers poked in them a few times. They just smoosh back with a wipey
My FAB gold is very soft. Most pearls or metallix are soft. IMO

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
My FAB ocean shimmer, gold, bronze and copper are hard to work with for that reason too. As soon as you add any water at all they just smoosh all over the place. I haven't really found a good balance between enough water to pick up any paint at all and goo.
Interestingly I've never had any problems with any of my Kryolan's, I have almost all the standard colours.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I have several other tag metalics and they are so hard that it's almost hard to make split cakes with so this is something new to me. I've just never run into this before.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
aahhhhhh! I had this same problem and everyone's solution was to stop adding water. I had the same issue - BEFORE I EVER ADDED WATER. It's good to know I'm not crazy and that other people are experiencing this problem as well. I know what Kryolan feels like, TAG should not feel like that, much less be nearly snotty in texture. Oy. I wish I had a solution for your Marias, but I've yet to come across one.
My guess is that there is a bad lot of it going around. =(

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I really think there's a bad lot of TAG/Wolfe making the rounds. Some of my newer cakes turned into 'toothpaste' consistency. Painting with toothpaste = IMPOSSIBLE! I haven't had this problem with my older TAGs, my Kryolan, or with my Wolfe Black. My new wolfe white is goo. I've tried the freezer, the fridge, and I finally chalked it up to a bad batch and pitched it.
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Did anyone contact them about a possible bad batch?

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I just got a couple one strokes and the bigger rainbow cakes, rainbow pearl fine, autumn cake fine, halloween cake fine, christmas bling cake fine, pansy one stroke fine, havana sunset one stroke fine, bashful one stroke GOOPY MESS (this one is 3 different shades of pearl pinks and a pearl lavender), and fancy feathers one stroke GOOPY MESS (this is 3 shades of blues and gold) These are so goopy that I have literally seen the brush pull a line of the paint out like a string of mucus (*gag) so nasty looking!
I wonder if it's certain colors??

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Tina, where did you purchase the one stroke cakes at? I know Silly Farm is really bad to mix brands in their cakes.

In retrospect - I should have. But I was crazy busy at the time and didn't.
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I have noticed my neons no matter where they are from get goopy...I just ordered some Kryolan neons to check the difference...I always feel they have a differnet texture to begin with...anyone else? I also went back to Arty Cake Rainbow I did not care too much for the TAG one. I like the TAG pearls...and I just got me a bunch of FAB and I am liking those shimmery colors and the glitter ones...So far I think they kinda have the same consistany of TAG pearls...soft like.
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone... I love my tags, but I got Girls Night Out... they are pearl purple, lavender and pink and really really goopy... It's the only one like that.
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
some of my tag pearls and neons are soft and if I apply too much pressure when loading the brush or sponge, I'm in goupy trouble. i just try to remember which cakes to have a lighter touch with. also, if one gets too goupy, I simply place a solid colored lid over it (one I've covered with a bright piece of duck tape), then the kids can't see the combo and it takes it out of my choices.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Has anyone set them in a warmed oven (like cooled down after baking warm) overnight to dry them out?
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I've got a gooey/sticky cake of the TAG pearl white/ pearl pink duo that was almost unusable. I tried leaving the lid off and also had it in the freezer for almost a week, but still no good. I live in Adelaide near where tags headquarters is so my supplier called them up on my behalf and I was told they were not aware of a bad batch. They recommended to leave the cake with the lid off on a window sill for a few days. I tried this and it got a bit better but its still a bit goopy.
I reckon they need to know if you have a problem cake so they can be aware if it. If enough people report a problem then they will know if its a whole batch. I have found Tag to have wonderful customer service overall.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I don't think having goopey TAG is unusual or down to a bad batch. I have had issues with 'goop' since using the brand 2 years ago....and i have gone through a lot of paint in that time... Their neons, metallics and blues are really bad for it. I work in a very hot/ humid climate and always blamed that. Paints go in the fridge during summer
In saying this, i just ordered a Sillyfarm neon cake made from Kryolan paints, and it is very soft and mushy straight out of the box. Maybe neons just do that regardless of brand.

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
I self-made a neon kryolan & it's hard...but it's been open since I made it...
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Could everyone clarify if these are goopy out of the box or after you use them. I would never send them goopy and wondering if it has to do with the temps that are exposed to in shipping and would like to investigate this. I will also be sending pics to TAG. Thanks!
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
For me they are soft when new and get progressively goopey once water is introduced. I don't spray the cake directly with water either. It is more noticable in summer. TAG does not like heat. I have had one of my painters apparently leave her kit in a hot room on an uneven surface. The paint melted out of their containers. Pretty much a brand new kit, used twice. $100 worth of paint turned to mush I salvaged what i could. (but side note, i think she didn't tell the complete truth.....my guess is she left the paints in the car. in the middle of summer. I can't imagine her room would have got hot enough for that to happen).

Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Metina, mine were out of the box, before use. I wish I had taken pics or video.
Re: New Tag Paints are Gooey
Goey paints are no fun to work with. Try putting your goey paints with the caps off in the freezer for 24 - 48 hours, it can really help to bring them back to thier normal consistancy.
