The perfect container for a one-stroke junkie... *UPDATE*

Last year I cut some of my one stroke cakes in half and put them in a bead organizer. It seemed to work - but only for a while - the cakes flattened and I couldn't load my brushes properly. So, I had to put the halves back together and put them back in their original containers.

Then, a couple of months ago I found these in the hardware dept. at WalMart and i bought 3 of them for about $5 each:



This is what I have now and they work PERFECTLY!



They are super lightweight so you can pick up the entire container and hold it easily when you want to load your brush. The lids come off and go back on easily (I take them off at gigs) and they are so slim that they fit super easily into "Maxine" (my FatMax).

p.s. I now have 1,800 nails, screws and various nuts & bolts... which are useless to me. But, if I had a husband......

I was about to ask if you were going to take up DIY as your next passion. ;-) That's an awful lot of one-stroke cakes, Miss Ronnie. Have you considered therapy?

On the other hand, this is a safe place to talk about our addictions. Great container idea, btw! What brands of paint did you use for all those split cakes?

They are all purchased one strokes. But, since I have lots of empty one-stroke containers on my hands now, too, I think I may have to start making some homemade ones!

Oh my goodness. Now I'm even more impressed - that's some investment! Beautiful kit. x

I love repurposing!

Throw the 1800 nuts, screws, nails and bolts into a Ziplock bag, and give them to Goodwill. Somebody else can use them.

You should sell the containers and recoup a bit. I've thought of putting regular colors in the one-stroke containers to save even more room in a kit. They are still big enough to put the end of a sponge in but they hold 32 gms.

Lol Denise, I was thinking the same thing. Hint, hint!

I've seen similar set ups before and wondered if it's tough to load your brush in the deeper container... I don't have nearly enough cakes to do this yet - just thinking ahead.

Not to be a downer... but, plastics leach chemicals. While containers that are meant to store food products should be "safe" I'm pretty sure that the ones sold full of screws are probably not the "safe" plastics.

I would suggest lining any containers you use that are not known to be safe for food with plastic food wrap before filling with make-up products. Just to be on the safe side.

Also... Snaz is known to "eat"certain types of plastic so that is another reason to line the containers with plastic wrap first.

Snaz eats away the hard acrylic type containers too... 9bead storage type) Mine cracked after about 2 months... pop! POP! pop! crack. oops

Yikes. The container store has empty containers similar to what you're showing. You don't have to get the hardware mix. But, yeah leaching chemicals are no good. Not all "food containers" or plastic wrap are "safe" either. Ziplock and Saran are bpa free though.

I did notice on some wolf fx labels not to put contents into other containers.

If anyone can find these containers ANYWHERE I would love if I can pay you for them and the shipping (You can keep the nails & screws for yourself!) They are no longer carrying them at my local Walmart. They have to be exactly like the ones shown in the photo, though. Any other container is not the exact size. The compartments are the exact size of a one stroke cake.

I am freaking out that I can't buy another one or two of them!!!!!!!!

Never saw your post until now, Shannon... Leaching? Really? Are we talking a serious threat to my paints or more of a "beware of possibility" situation? Essentially, these containers seem to be the exact same kind that bead organizers are made of. And beads are made to touch the skin so I would think the containers to store beads are safe enough.

yes, there are many containers available at various stores.... and I have tried several different ones. But this particular container is an exact match size-wise for small Arty Cakes and TAG one stroke cakes.
