Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
It's gross. I used to be afraid of bees (I've never been stung so I have this fabricated fear that if it finally happens I'll die), but now they just piss me off. I've worked a couple outdoor events lately and it seems they're attracted to my paint! Mind you some little brats thought it would be a good idea to put their pop cans beside my kit...
Anyone have a solution to this issue? Perhaps I should carry a fly swatter...

It's awful because I'm still afraid so when the bees are around the kids in my chair I feel like such a wuss and kinda shoo them away. Their mom usually ends up leaning over and whacking them lol.
Re: Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
Right now it's wasp season so it's not the bees that worry me in my area!! LOL
if you had a 2 litre bottle of sugar water, will they not go in and drown?

Re: Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
Are they heading towards your neons? Bees can also see in the ultraviolet spectrum range, though they're red-blind (it looks black to them).
Re: Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
Bees are attracted to yellows and oranges. So, as an aside, don't wear those colors when gardening, hiking, or attending outdoor events.
I'm also wondering whether they're attracted to the perfumes in some of the paint brands?
And yes, the soda cans by your table don't help. I ask everyone to please set their soda somewhere else as soon as I see that happening, and I explain that if the table got bumped and it spilled into my kit, it would be a disaster for me. Everyone nicely removes their drink.

If you are using paradise... watch out for dogs. When I tried it out (when it first came out... briefly) my poodle practically trampled me trying to get at it.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence, but I've noticed if I see bugs near my paints, they're always in or near my paradise paints... maybe the coconut smell attracts them?
I'm scared of bees and spiders, and somehow they always seem to find me :/

Re: Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
If you crush a bee or a wasp, it releases a pheromone that attracts others bees/wasps. Bees and wasps do not like to fly in the rain. The water weighs down their wings and they are grounded. I gently mist them with my spray bottle of water, and they go away.
Re: Why do bees insist on flying into my paint?
Dear Fesspainter,
Why in the world would anyone "gently" mist a bee?
I know I'd spritz the h*ll out of them.
Just saying...
Maybe you Canadians are more altruistic...?

I do have the ability to set my big spray bottle to a gentle mist.... or, a deadly "stun" setting. Unfortunately, I only carry my peaceful tiny spray bottle. Also, my aim is not very good with my spray bottle. I get myself, my tiny client, my paints. Thank Goodness I do not carry the heavy artillery.
Also, the wasps at the Canadian National Exhibition appear to be the size of tiny, tiny sparrows. I think they have been imported from Winnipeg, where the mosquitos ARE the size of sparrows.

Oddly enough, they were all over my TAG white that turned to goop... Maybe they turned it into hunny!
The spray bottle sounds perfect, don't know why I didn't think of that...

Bugs... they seems to have a taste for the body arts..
When airbrush tattooing, i get the little nosee'em flies all over my paint (smells like cotton candy )
If using C02 for air.. it brings in the mosquitoes
Doing henna, the wasps like the sugar that is in the henna and seal
And now apparently the bees and wasps are coming in for pretty colors and pop cans lol
Can't catch a break it seems
