Everybody loves a tiger
Do you have full face designs at your festivals and fairs? I just have a set price of $5. I have been doing full faced tigers in all kinds of colors, a full face Ironman, and 3/4 face spider man. But those three designs are the most requested yet take up the most time to do. I would hate to take off those options becuase I know the kids (and parents even) like them, but I dont know how to do them faster to move my line along. Any help, ideas, or input?

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
That's why I went to the masks for animals and only the crown area for spiderman. His eyes end at the lid. I don't have a picture for the tiger but here's a quicker Spidey for $5.00.
Here's the quick animal board. Not only are the eye areas smaller to avoid having to outline, but I don't do a muzzle. I make two little ears instead that are easier for me to do. I'll attach a picture of the cheetah to give you an idea where they go. Do you have Starblends?

I dont think my area would support higher prices. I have seen your boards Dennise and think they are just wonderful! What do the boys say about the forehead paints instead of the full face? Do you still get alot of kids asking for the full faces or being disapointed that they didnt get a full face, even though you had the picture right there? No, I dont have any starblends yet. I would really really like to get some when I can finacially justify spending more money on them.

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I often do just a half face/mask as well. If they are upset about it, I say something like "well now you can eat (fill in delicious treat that they are serving, i.e., cake or cotton candy) without having to worry about smearing your face. That way it will last longer." Usually this makes them happy and they run off to get said treat.
Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I also like to stick to just $5 for everything. Some are quicker, some are slower... it all evens out pretty well.
I don't do an Ironman and I've never had it requested. Boys like Spiderman and Batman masks quite a bit. Spiderman is definitely one of my slowest designs, and it always seems that the squirmiest kids pick it!
I make it quicker by only using 3/4" brushes, no sponges. I get a nice crisp edge around the white eyes, then crisp red around that. Then it's just a matter of doing some quick black lines and done!

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
When I had a $10 version of almost all of the superheroes it was still the parents setting the price and they went with the $5.00 version. I just offer, "I can do full faces at parties" give the parents a card. Honestly, they can't see it anyway...they just want to be able to pretend. I think it would be more important at Halloween if they want to match a costume but for fairs or corporate gigs, they just want to "be" a superhero and the love the reaction they get from adults.
Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I just do all mine at $5 . Most of my customers seem to want that.

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I think I nabbed these ideas from one of Denise's boards and they work great. I have never had a kid disappointed, or parent. When they look in the mirror, they really see that super hero looking back at them. It is just a boost to their imagination.
These are quick and totally worth the five bucks. If I do the whole face, I charge between 8 and 10 depending on the venue.
Sometimes I do change it up and do half face, but for the most part I like the mask designs.

This is my fast tiger done with TAG pearl yellow + Wolfe orange, it's a version of Lisa's I just hate to paint around the mouth so this is perfect and the kids love it.

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
Heres one I do at my regular Job where I am painting 19.4 per hour (inc in and out of chair etc) so the line work is not the best but this is what we have to do there, we basically have 2min 30 sec by the time they are in and out of the chair This one had to be cut short due to photographers time limit- hmmm. so less than 2 and a half mins I guess??
here is a standard one photographer got after when at the same venue.
This one is about 3min 30 sec (without highlights) moves to standard 4 min with more care and high lights. (the muzzle is off on this as I was pushing for 3 min mark to speed up the tiger when I did it on my son It is basically a one stroke cat - with stripes. if you have a little longer you can add fangs as I do at most 4 min per face gigs. haven't had a chance to repaint it nice yet as I get few oppertunitys with him letting me paint him now.
for me a full face good looking tiger takes me any where from 5 to 7 min- deepending on the child. I say that as even at a party if you give me a 3 year old who is moving I will go for the one stroke cat. and that can take 5 mins-LOL but give me a 9 year old who does everything right and I will giv them a full face tiger. I had one but cant find it but it is basically the wolfe brothers tiger.
I made the mistake of doing this at PPF when I started out and I spent forever.

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I've really upped my speed on tigers & can do most in 4-6 minutes. I don't paint below the lips. It's just an area that gets sloppy from food & makes your design look like yuck....

Re: Everybody loves a tiger
I agree Linda, I just don't like painting below the lips. I was questioned by a guest at a party this weekend on why I wasn't completely covering the whole face, so I told him. As soon as you drink or eat something, the design will not look good.
Made sense to him and all the moms in the line, and they were all happy.
Nice tigers everyone! And thanks for the compliments. I really appreciate Denise sharing her quick boards so we could all find inspiration!

As I'm reading this thread I'm thinking "OMG I love this forum!" These designs are so great and Denise, I love your boards again! I'm thinking of doing something similar since I don't have many live models to get photos of. Thanks all for the inspiration! I love the ears too and I would like to start adding those to my designs. Too cute! this thread!

I love the placement of the stripes on your tiger...but how do you get nice lines over the eyelids?! I avoid that area when painting people other than my kids because it always smudges quick, do you do those lines first and make them sit with their eyes clossed while you finish the design?

Here is one of mine. I don't do the stencil underneath for festivals. I can do this in about 5 minutes or less I add the stencil and more dots at birthday parties.
