My First Event yesterday!
I had two scheduled for yesterday i had to be in a town 45 mins away by 8am for the big 4th parade(well big for our area) lol. My hubby finally got the canopy up and was finishing hanging the signs and i already had a line!! I was so excited. I had to rush to get my paints out. Got through the line and everyone loved the work i did and i even got tips. I was not expecting that on my first ever gig.
During the parade i had no one and that was to be expected after all they are there to watch the parade hehe. After tho i had Lines and stayed an hour after i was expecting to pack up and leave for the next gig in a town 35 mins away for the fireworks show. I sold about half face paintings and half glitter tattoos.
I then headed to the other town . it wasent until about 1 to 2 hours before the fireworks show did things pick up there. Once it did tho i had even longer lines. I was so nervous people wouldn't wait with the long lines like that but they totally did.
It was such a rush and i LOVE what i do now. My next big gig is on Saturday and i CANT WAIT!
Thanks all , just wanted to share my excitement hehe

Re: My First Event yesterday!
Good to hear you enjoyed yourself!
It's so exciting when it's your first events isn't it, and such a relief when people like what you're doing!

Congrats. Sounds like all went well and if people responded well to your painting you should start getting more and more jobs.
Re: My First Event yesterday!
Yay! I know what that rush feels like. It makes all the worry and sweat worth it.
Re: My First Event yesterday!
Awesome!!! Glad to hear it went well! D---- i am waiting to hear how you did???
Re: My First Event yesterday!
You are totally hooked NOW..lol..So happy for you..Wishing you lots of work and many adventures.
Re: My First Event yesterday!
thank you so much everyone :-)
I had moms taking business cards talking about birthday party's so that made me even more excited.
So not sure if this is good profit so let me know what you guys think.
At the first spot i was there for about a hour of working time so that's not counting the Parade time since i knew i wouldn't have any coming to my booth during that. I earned $100, packed up and went to the fireworks show was there for about an hour to hour and half and got another $100 so $200 for the day of a total for 2 to 2 and a half working hours.
Is that the norm for face painting?
Since I'm new i don't know if that's what i should expect at events or not lol.

Re: My First Event yesterday!
The most I've made is $80.00 per hour and that was with a helper so that's fantastic.

Do you guys count set up and take down as part of the working time because i only counted face painting hours, i might be calculating it wrong lol

Re: My First Event yesterday!
Nope. I would count the down time though. Anytime you are sitting there available to work..even if there is no one coming. For instance, the first hour of our booth at the fair is really slow but I still count all the money and divide it by the time my tent was up and I was available to paint. So you would still count the parade and the fireworks time.
Do you know how many you ended up painting?

Re: My First Event yesterday!
Yey for you!!! I remember My first one, I was so nervous, but it fells like heaven to see that little happy faces when they look at the mirror so everything goes back to normal, I hope you get a lot of gigs in the future from that two events
Re: My First Event yesterday!
ok, so i should add that half hour of parade time to my working hours, so that would mean $100 for a hour and 1/2.
i dont count fireworks time as i was already breaking down my booth as it was too dark to paint or tattoo at that point. On my last two customers my hubby was holding up his cell phone so i could have light to see what i was doing lol.
Hmm the amount i painted i'm not sure of. I also have glitter tattoos and for some customers wanted a face paint and tattoo, it kept me busy lol.
I'm just so happy i didnt let that line scare or rattle me, that's what i was scared of before i started. I just chugged along and gave the customer i was painting my attention.
