Not sure what to do, advice please!

Here's the deal- I want to paint faces/ do glitter tat's at the town's firework's display on the Fourth. I would be set up on the street where there are always 2 vendors selling glow sticks and such (I should also mention that we always watch the fireworks about 20ft away from where I plan on setting up) . I went to the town hall to ask about a permit and was sent through 4 depts until finally being sent back to the dept. I started with! No one had an answer for me, though the woman at the Town clerk told me to "just walk around and do it" Do y'all think I should just go ahead and set up a table and go at it?

This will be my first event too, so I'm a bit nervous!

Yes, just do it. I live in a very small town and their laws don't cover everything. So if there is no law, you can't break it! Besides, the worst that could happen is for someone from the city to tell you to leave. I'd have gotten the name of the lady that told you to go ahead...then if anyone says anything, you can refer them to her

Go for it. Debra is right, if no one can give you an answer and she told you to go for it, it will most likely be ok. If anyone has issues, refer them back to the people you started with.

the 4th is my very first GIG too Misha!! I'm so nervous and excited at the same time.
I also am setting up close to where they fire off the fire works. I called Costco (witch is were TONS of people part because the fire works go right over the top of it) and got their ok so i didn't have to deal with the city thank goodness.
if the city couldnt give you a answer i say just set up and go for it

That's gotta be nice! My cities permits make it not worth doing. The cost is more than what I'd possibly make... I only get to get in when someone local to the area has an event & I can squeeze in with them. So, I have to go to a festival the next state over (about 45 minutes drive from me). I love July 4th festivals! If there's no rules, just set up & paint! Have the phone number & name of the person who said ,"Do it." Just in case. The worse thing that can happen is you get shut down (they usually won't fine you the 1st time:-)

You could always check with a storefront as well--they have a certain footage
they have rights to---I set up at a local bar/tavern--no vendor fee, no permit, no hassle from the foot patrol!

I'd say your city doesn't have a permit for said activity. You did due dilligence. Do let and store owner know if you are in front of their shop, most like it some do not. now unfortunately you've tipped the city off on a way to make money - bet they get a permit process going now.

The worst thing that might happen is someone (like the cops) would tell you to leave and that's not so bad. That probably won't happen anyway so I say go for it!

I would say go for it...I have never had to get a permit for the small town festivals that I do...and the worse that can happen is they may tell you to leave...but I doubt it...they will all think you got the ok...and really you did..she told you do go ahead..

Tried this once in my town. Had permission from the restaurant I set up in front of and everything.

Code enforcement shut me down.
