My first potential restaurantt gig!!!! YEAH!!!!
The other day, I found a 50's themed restaurant on facebook that was advertising thier first monthly summer car cruise this weekend. I messaged them and asked if they might be interested in face painting. They messaged me back right away that that would be really cool. I will be talking to them about the specifics tomorrow, so hopefully it goes well. If they like it, I hope it may turn into a steady thing. It is a family style restaurant so there should be kids to paint. I really have to force myself to get out there and market myself, but it sure is worth it. I guess you never know unless you ask! Wish me luck!

Great job, have you thought about what you want to charge ? Make sure you take samples of your work with you. LUCK!!!

That's fantastic! I recently contacted my local Chick Fil-A and they totally blew me off. lol. Absolutely NO interest in face painting... and I know they don't currently have anyone. Oh well.

I paint at a 50's style restraunt..this is my 4th summer...they are only open from april to sept...to cold during the winter..they have cruise nites and motorcycle nites...i paint there 2 nights a week..the also have carhops on roller skates....i don't get my full rate but i can put out a tip jar,, and they feed me and my husband..and i pass out cards and have gotten serveral gigs off this restraunt..one is a family reunion..and this august will be the 4th year i have painted for this family.. so you may not get your full rate..but the benefits are pretty good..free food..and a great way to pass out cards and things..I also consider it great practice, as the kids let me try out new designs on them...congrats on your new gig..good luck..and I hope it lasts a long as as mine has..I also paint at another restraunt all year round...Fazoli's ...

I GOT IT!!!! I talked to the owner and she thought it was a great idea. We are trying it out this weekend and if it goes well, I will be invited back for all thier summer events! I can't wait. I'm so glad I stopped being so nervous and got out there and marketed myself. It really works! I owe it all to these forums and the great ideas on here!

Same here, and the marketing specialist for the one near me goes to my church and her son was in my daughter's 1st grade class last year and we are friends! For her, she said it was a budget issue. They don't want to charge the patrons, but they also don't want to pay the painter from their own budget.
Re: My first potential restaurantt gig!!!! YEAH!!!!
will they barter? I paint for my local Chick Fil-A and they pay me my full rate amount only it's in food trays (available when I want to order them) and coupons. It works for me as I no longer cringe at the thought of purchasing a nice tray to take to a party or family event. They also give me meal coupons (20 at a time for the sandwich/drink/fries) that my daughter and her friends usually grab which is o.k. because they are the ones usually helping me at festivals. If that is something that would work for you, approach them with that scenario.

I have kept my humble little weekly restaurant gig at Moe's Southwest Grille for 5 years now. The pay has never been great (although I asked for and got an increase this year) but I make tips, get free dinner for myself and my son, get birthday parties and other gigs from it and am allowed to charge for glitter tattoos (which I only have time to do in the slower months) and have made friends with several of the regulars who come in week after week for the free meals for the kids. Plus, the manager has taken me along to other events that they participate in and I can charge per face there.

I actually suggested food coupons. I would absolutely love that. We eat there all the time. Nada.

hhhhhmmmm we have an antique car show here on the last saturday of the months that wouldn't interfere with my booth I might have to look into that and see if they will let me in. Maybe contact our local chik fil a too they have a family night every so often and a friend of mine's son works there.

The car cruise was both good and bad. The bad news was that there was a huge music festival right down the road, and another competing car cruise on the same day that is one of the biggest in the area, so the cruise was really small. They had me paint all the restaurant staff and every kid that came got painted but 1, but it was a really small crowd. The good news was that they invited me back for the rest of the summer, and they promised that the other cruises will be much, much busier. The staff can't wait to be painted again. They all got ice cream cones and eye designs, but next time I'll have milkshakes, sundaes, etc.
