What can I get in Canada? Empty What can I get in Canada?

Post by SebastianDuffy Sat May 05, 2012 12:21 pm

Hi there! I live in Canada and I've been using Snazzaroo, which was fine with me until I saw the fabulous other kinds of paint on here and now I'm wanting to try more. Is there anyone who lives in Canada that knows where to get some? I was hoping to save the pain of ordering online

Thanks so much Smile

And obviously comediennes...

All brands are available in Canada. We aren't that isolated (unless you live in NORTHERN Alberta No ) Seeing how BIG this country is you could be a bit more specific.

If you are in one of the magor cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, ... scratch um... Montreal... There are retail storefronts where you can walk in and buy almost all of the brands. Many "dance shops" carry the major brands too.

There are also online or telephone orders outlets (some of which are the same storefronts like Dotsy's in St. Thomas, ON; Don's Hobby in Calgary, AB, etc.) and dozens of smaller retailers across the country.

lol @ Lisa. No doubt, eh? (more Canadian humour).

...And lots of words spelled with 'ou' instead of 'o.'

My local costume shop sells many brands, but not TAG. Glitterfly sells TAG in Canada online. But shipping from Metina here in the shop isn't so bad either. Plus, I didn't even get charged duty on my last order.

But you said you don't want to shop online - I understand. Once you open that door, it's all too accessible!
So check out the local costume shops within driving distance of wherever you are.

Oh, and Welcome!

Edmonton - Theatre Garage. I order from them a couple times a year. They are really great about special ordering for me. They carry the full line of Kryolan, you'd have to check to see what other lines they carry.

Their website is still a work in progress http://theatregarage.ca/ but their contact info is there.

You could also check Dance stores as the dancers need theatrical makeup too.

There is also Don's hobby shop in Calgary. I also recommend Hokey Pokey in Toronto, they sell DFX and TAG. They have GREAT customer service!

canadian prices are a bit much....i can get tag essentials for 5.50 per 32g and canadian stores want 9 bucks per. I am finding a 4 to 5 dollar price difference per item, just would hate to think how much i would have to pay if i ran out of a one color in shipping charges

Here are your choices as a Canadian artist.1) you buy from Canadian distributes, pay a little more for the product. Very few "one stop shopping places though. So often you are buying from different companies. Since you are buying with in Canada, you have options for cheaper delivery postage..
2) you buy products from either Europe or the states. Some prices are cheaper, more companies with the "one stop shopping" Bigger selection of products. The draw back is paying for the shipping AND getting dinged with the extra taxes when you go and pick up the order. I just was hit with almost an extra $95 for delivery PLUS those damn taxes! But this is why As a professional , you need to charge a decent price. many new artists have no idea how much it all costs to run a real business , and they start off by charging way to little !When you hear about established artists charging $75 and way more an hour, it is NOT because we are greedy little things, it is because that is the basic in order to make a decent profit. Otherwise you end up running a very expensive hobby ! Razz You also get to know quickly that as part of your ordering process, you stock up.So that you are are not just ordering one of each. This helps a great deal! I have never been one to panic when the whole " OMG there is no Wolfe white or DFX white anywhere in North America , what am I going to do ? ))As I always have at least 3 large pucks of major colours I go through on my selves Smile

I hope this helps Very Happy

What Shelley said. I always buy in bulk (last time I ordered Snaz White I bought 9 - that was all they had or I would have got more.)

My last parcel from the US required an ADDITIONAL $85 in duty, GST ,and "brokerage fees" and UPS wouldn't leave the package without being paid. Trust me... pay the extra to buy from a Canadian supplier.

Most of the Canadian distributors I deal with give me a discount as I do buy so much at a time.

Hmmm, Im in Nova Scotia and Im doing my first big event at the end of this month. I was planning on ordering from sillyfarm, that's who I ordered from before, but the shipping is going to cost me $40... Theres no where in Halifax that I know of to buy face paints, anything other then snaz. Ill have to check out some Canadian stores and see how much they charge for shipping...
