Totally off topic here Peppermint, but I was reading your post and would love to see your one stroke turtle, sand shark, tiger lily, whale and periwinkle flowers. Many are designs that intrigue me but have never tried.

Thanks
for the inspiration.

Hello, faceandbodyfx, I'm back! :-) Sorry for the delay but here are some quick one stroke designs I did of the 5 items you asked for. I lent my magpie to another painter so I used my rose split for the whale, hopefully you still get the idea. For these five pictures, I used rose, ocean, fire and leaf split. Even the black and white line work are from these splits. Thus you can do a lot of different designs with just some basic splits. Sorry for the periwinkle flowers in the yellow light but dinner came between my first 4 pictures and the periwinkle. :-)

If you live near a Menards, get that Plano rolling tool box, it is THE BOMB! I love it! Watch the sales, it goes on sale every few weeks for 49.00! A MUST have for me. Finding brushes you like is trial and error, and the coupons help, but also, the Micheals coupon can score you some good wolfe, if you buy the klutz book with the coupon (it is 24.99) the book comes with an apetizer pallet and a wolfe #2 or 3 brush. totally worth the 15 bucks or so with the coupon, and a much better deal than buying snaz at Micheals any day.

For me, mama clown glitter, wolf white and black, star blend white, red and black, a red and white split, juicy fruit, a rainbow of some sort (not too particular) all the tag pearls (pink, white, blue, purple, teal) and leaf one stroke, and a couple of girly one strokes, and I am pretty set (plus a standard pallet, of course!) And...Ben Nye Lumeire powders, blood, a bruise wheel squirt blood and coagulated blood...and bad naughty word stencils...oh my...oh my...the list....just....gets....longer....

I also love splits with purple but that's personal taste.
Also love liquid blings like Suzy Sparkles, they really pop a design!

Is the glitter from glitter tats usable on the face?!
Thought I read somewhere that it's not suitable for that?

Typically not. Tulip glitter for sure says to keep away from eyes. Some of the Wolfe glitter that I looked at said the same thing. You need to be sure to look for cosmetic glitter if going anywhere near eyes.

This is such a helpful topic for me right now given my "Student volunteer helper" situation, lol.

I'm trying to compress my replacement order into the basics, and I'm wondering if I should even bother with regular colours or if I should just get all metallics.

Oh, you should still use regular colors!!! Metallics/pearls are great and definitely have their special place, but not every design is going to look right in them.

Why not order split cakes from TAG for all your regular colors? A little of each, plus they blend beautifully together.

That's my two cents anyway... cyclops

I can't go without my leaf split. I also use a lot of pink for the girls and orange for classic tigers and cheetahs. You could mix these colors but I just don't have time during the parties to do any mixing. I don't use my butterfly brush very much at all. I find it easier to just use a flat brush with a split to paint the wings quickly. Sometimes brown is also a good color to have for teddy bears and other animals.

Hate butterfly brushes...just learn one-stroke ones and buy another 3/4" brush.

I have a couple of butterfly brushes that I made.. I use them when I need to do a quickie butterfly for the tiniest tots... on their arms. I also use them for an instant quickie sideview butterfly that I can lay down in or around flowers.

But for making great and distinctive one stroke butterflies, yeah, use a 3/4 flat.

Honestly, I disagree with some of what Miss Ronnie said. I have 2 laptops: one contains only splits (50g and abc's) and the other contains pearl TAG. The only 2 colors I use ALL the time that are 'regular' are my Wolf White (90 g) and my red snaz. Following Denise's suggestion, I've basically completely switched to Pearl Black for all of my face painting (washes off slightly easier).

What do you plan on making with the pearl purple/green split? I feel like those colors brown up when you use them together. Also, I recommend the pearl white - it's not 'solid' enough to use instead of a white, but it makes a lovely sponged backdrop for butterflies.

If it were me, instead of the separate dark green and the lite green, I'd get the two together as one 50 g split.

Priorites on building a kit - Page 2 Empty Re: Priorites on building a kit

You could create a smaller kit by thinking boy/girl. For the girly colors you can do the pearl splits and for the boy colors you can do regular splits instead of having a full rainbow in both types. I'm going to assume we're talking TAG here because I think in terms of TAG and 50gm splits. I even transfer my Wolfe white into a square container now...so I buy a 90gm to save money but only "pack" half a split of it. I took a hard look at what I've used most in the last 6 months and this is a must have list:

TAG Pearl colors in 50gm splits:
Teal/Pink
Purple/Lilac
Gold/Copper
Orange/Yellow

TAG Regular colors in 50gm splits:
Dark Green/Light Green
Dark Blue/Light Blue
Brown/Mid Brown
Orange/Golden Orange* (I prefer my Pearl Orange/Yellow split for tigers but the colors aren't good for other things, like Sponge Bob)
* I like golden orange better than regular yellow but you'd have a hard time finding this split. I had to make it.

Denise's Pearl/Regular Same Color Splits. (I made these to be able to mix the colors to take advantage of their different properties ie: mix white and pearl white for sponging so it's more sheer and has slight shimmer but still has good coverage.)
Wolfe Black/TAG Pearl Black
Wolfe White/TAG Pearl White
TAG regular red/TAG Pearl Red
Regular Grey/Pearl Silver (I actually have Tulip Silver and TAG silver but this would be a good split to keep grey in your kit but make the TAG silver more opaque for knights/elephants/cyborgs)

One-Stroke:
4 Rainbow (Must easier to work with than neon rainbow and I use the colors for blossoms. Kids love rainbows.)
Snake (for boy things like monsters but a must for leaves)
Dragon (flames, snakes, dragons but great for hibiscus flowers)
Magpie (everything...sharks, flowers, eye designs, wings, skulls)
Berry (roses, crowns, eye designs)
Dolphin (dolphins, flowers, roses, crowns, eye designs)
Unicorn (girls love it...go figure...ditto above...except dolphins)
Patriot (Because you'll want something 4th of July soon)

50gm Rainbow Cakes:
Carnival (I just got this but already love it more than a Neon Rainbow...it blends into a rainbow.)
Havana Sunset (I don't have this but it's a lot like a Juicy Fruit Cake which is fabulous)

If you have the money you might consider buying these colors in full sizes and then using the empty containers to make your own splits and rainbows later on. I'm still DYING to transfer my rounds I have left into square containers.

I put my paints in a small scrapbook case so you could see that you can have a small kit with tons of options. (I don't have the brown split yet or the havana rainbow so I substituted other colors)

Sorry...I've gone on too much but if I were starting again, this is what I would use just starting out until I got some more money. Knowing what I know now, I'd probably buy my Starblends first before I bought other colors. Boys really respond (or should I say DON'T respond) to the powders.

Here's a couple of pictures of how the squares would fit in a paper holder and also how the carnival split looks on.

I guess it's a matter of taste for paints. I use my regular colors far more than my metallics/pearls ... especially for boys.

I probably have too much paint (is that possible?!!!) because I buy whatever color, one stroke or rainbow cake I like... and then come up with designs for them. My obsession still continues...

I'm actually planning on just using the pearl purple/green split as separate colours. I tried to compact as many colours as I could into my order without having too many containers. I have some paints that weren't taken out of my kit so I can still use them. I've got a Jungle one-stroke, a rainbow one-stroke, some home made Snaz splits (ugh), and a colour here and a colour there...

I like the idea of a butterfly brush for the quick cheek art designs Smile

I've actually had a lot of help offered to me by other members and I'm so appreciative! My new kit is going to be pretty sweet! I;m almost glad the volunteers had paint fights with my supplies LMAO!!!!

Very nice! I so wish I joined this forum at the beginning, I've wasted so much money on Snazaroo party packs and shipping 2-3 items every month or so... I could probably buy 12 split cakes with the amount I wasted in shipping...

I think I might have made my teal/pink split myself from full cakes.

I haven't tried the browns, tans in Starblends but Miss Ronnie had a beautiful Lion made with them. I'll see if I can find it. She also gives several design ideas:

BTW how close is Orem to Park City??
