Re: snazaroo splits
I wouldnt think they would melt, the containters that they come in are plastic. Ive had mine for 5 months. I have the 28 pallet and the tub the paint sits in are a thin plastic. ( Just got to the bottom of my white)
Re: snazaroo splits
Snaz does eat plastic, but not the plastic it comes in. Basically, the paint breaks down the plastic till it shatters. Hopefully you use it up before the container breaks.
Re: snazaroo splits
Snaz eats the Grimas containers. That is known and proven - there is a chemical reason (the type of plastic) but I don't remember the specifics.
I have not heard about it eating anything else, bit if the plastic is the same as the Grimas containers it could.
If in doubt, line the continer with plastic wrap before putting the Snaz in it.

Re: snazaroo splits
Someone posted on a different thread that Snaz will eventually break down the clear hard plastic container until they shatter as Linda said. I've repotted some of mine into the milky looking plastic (CraftMates) which supposedly is okay. Time will tell.

Re: snazaroo splits
I put my Snaz into a tackle box (milky plastic) when I 1st started face painting & it shattered after about a year. It wasn't till I got on FPF that I realized it was most likely the plastic breaking down from the face paint. I've avoided re-potting it ever since (but I also rarely use Snaz). I have some for when I work w/ a volunteer team at my church, Snaz Red for Spidey & this wonderful pink that Shannon sent me that I use for blush on little girls..
Re: snazaroo splits
Thanks for the heads up Linda. The CraftMates are milky plastic as well although a bit thicker than tackle box inserts. Started collecting some of the Snaz mainly for when I work "events" with other "volunteers" and they want to use my paints. Last time someone got hold of a Wolfe black and before I knew it, it was a gummy mess. Never again! Will let them use some Snaz that I can easily replace with a coupon!

Re: snazaroo splits
I'm sure it's just one of the oils that are in it. Some plastics are sensitive to a lot of different things.
Re: snazaroo splits
I place the plastic covering that comes on top of the snaz paint on the bottom of the container and then the paint, so far so good. It's only been about six weeks but still ok.
Re: snazaroo splits
Tea tree oil will eat plastic. I've seen it burn holes through Styrofoam. I smeared tea tree oil over the bottom half of my face this morning. On purpose. I do it a lot. It gets rid of acne.
So just because something eats through plastic doesn't mean it's horrid or scary. It could be beneficial. Me, I wonder about the plastics........
