Ah! Names pros and cons?
Every name I come up with has the cons that come along with it, and I don't know what to settle on!
So many rejects...
There was Mellow Kingdom...rejected! Good advice from people here (possible association/misinterpretation as a head shop lol), plus kinda boring anyway.
A few I forget...the Imagine Nation Party Arts (as the full name but just calling it Imagine Nation (play on words). Even ordered bus cards and made a website...but I don't like it anymore. Too easy to confuse the spelling, kinda boring, and not personal to me at all.
The past few days I've been thinking and have a few possibilities:
Serendipity (with a suffix like events or faces or something)...I like the word, kind of fell into face painting, a lucky thing (serendipity), associated with an awesome children's book series, and is an appealing word in general. CONS: used for many businesses (not many of this type, but still, lots of spas and stuff), possible misspellings by people who don't know the word, and not very fun (as in I may get tired of it quickly).
Mellow Mania - PROS: my last name in the title...opposite words (mellow::laid back : mania::hyper), fun, easy, probably not taken. CONS: Again, other not so child friendly associations, and may not pop out at people.
My own favorite, a thought from the beginning, is Sporktacular. Now I know that's weird, but oh my god, I have this insane fascination with sporks. Don't believe me? Check out my collection (funny enough a few are missing):
Anyway pros: whimsical, noone else has it, personal association, sticks out, is an adjective (can be divided into categories/expanded to other areas, ie Sporktacular faces, ______ body art, _______ magic, etc, if I wanted), have a spork with a painted face as the mascot, promote with my card attached to a spork, dress as Count(ess) Sporkula for a SPOOKtacular halloween party hehehe, where the only utensil present are sporks, etc, etc... CONS: well, NOT everyone is as easily amused as I am!!!
Anyway your takes? Advice? Am I just not thinking straight due to sleep deprivation? LoL. As the signs in the store windows say: HELP WANTED! Thank you!!!

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
I LOVE Sporktacular Faces...so original, and it fits you, obviously. What an interesting thing to collect. I used to collect napkins--had them from all over the world. Maybe I could call mine "Nappy Kins"..hmmm there's a thought! LOL
Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Sporks??? Is that a NY thing?? Never heard of them nor seen one before. but what a great idea. Maybe I am just a country bumpkin after all.... I did grow up in Regina.. does that count as a big city? No, didn't think so!! LOL
Sporktacular... very original and it certainly will get people's interest up!

I LOVE SPORKS!!! My brother in CA had a fascination with them too!!! He had a store (many moons ago) selling 60's 70's era furnishings called Spork Orbit.
Definitely not a NY thing!! They were a phenomenon to save money or be multifunctional. A few restaurants still give you the "spork" (half fork, half spoon) We had them at the elementary and jr. high in school at the cafeteria growing up!!
People will remember the Spork - it is fun, comical, unusual, trivia and nostalgic all in one. Go for it!!!!

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Thank you!!! I've been hesitating at actually using it just because I thought people would be put off by it, but I think I'm going to go ahead with it!
Judy you've never heard of a spork? Aw you were deprived! They are so wonderfully useless and fun!
Metzpah- ummm...I guess it can be used as such, haha!
Wyndy- That's awesome, do you have any pics or random memorabilia?

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Just be careful with names. Try and pic something you don't have to spell so that you can just say the name and if they look it up later on the net, they don't struggle with the spelling.
Also, think about logos. I like "faces" with any face painting name and wish mine had it as well. Fasinating faces, furry faces, ect....
Thing of long term, not just your facination with sporks. It just isn't something you are going to want to explain over and over to customers.
Or just your name Jessica Mellow Creations, Jessica Mellow Faces. One that really impressed me was Jessical Hicklin Studio.
I like Jessica Mellow Creations. As another painter told me, if you use creations, then you aren't limited to using all your promo stuff for face painting if you get into something else.
Just my two cents. I think your name is Jessica. If not, then just insert your first name.

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
What great advice Metina. I never thought of it that way. our photography studio is "Smithers Studio". Easy, to the point. I may just use it with the facepaint thing too.
Thanks for the info!

I like Sporktacular... it is catchy.
I use my own name... it covers everything, and no requirement to register it as it is MINE...

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Good advice, Metina. It certainly is easy to just spell out my name...even though even with SUCH an easy last name people still spell it wrong! I think I'm going to have to go with Sporktacular though, possibly to scratch the itch I've been having for a looooooooooooooooooong time to strat a company having something to do with sporks, haha. Plus what if I teamed up with someone else down the road, and my name was the one on the business? That wouldn't be fair to them, I don't think...
Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Have a sporkilicious day! Making your Birthday Parties Sporky!!!
I kinda like it. Not sure why. It's a little weird... a little funky... but I bet you are too and it makes you cool.

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Thank you! And I do appreciate the advice! I really like the idea about Creations, too. Now it's a decisions between Spork tacular party Services/Event Services/Creations/Entertainment/Studio. Or just Spork tacular Fun!
Long term possible goal: Add custom designed tshirts and merch as well with fun spork sayings (another thing I've wanted to do and now figure I can incorporate into this if I have the right name, well once I figure out how to do that anyway!
Logo design...how much does it run? How much is a tax id?

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Catchy and cute. I like it! Something I've learned is that it's best to have "face painting" somewhere in the name, because your website will come up more readily in search engines when people search for face painting. I used to have my name listed in engines as just "faces alive", but I've started changing it to "Faces Alive Face Painting" and it pops right up (whether through Decidio, PartyPlanner, PartyPop, etc) when someone does a local search.
Anyway, all that to say this... use "face painting" somewhere, even if just a subtitle like: Sporktacular Studios - Face Painting in Style, or whatnot. I personally like Sporktacular Face Painting.

Re: Ah! Names pros and cons?
Haha I love you guys! You got some good ones up your sleeves! I have probably wasted, well...more time than I care to admit over the past couple years that I've been collecting, just thinking of random spork quotes...oh I have some fun ones! I just am not totally sure how to get the whole designing thing down. Do I need Photoshop or something? Am I supposed to hire a logo designer? I'd rather be more of a DIY business. Partially for the money issues, and partially bc I'm a control freak haha. So...guess what! I have a tax id number, yay! I haven't registered the business, but am now legally allowed to charge for my services. At least that's how I understood it. Anyway yes so that is out of the way at least!
I hope you all are having a great night!
