how to use rainbow cakes?
Hi all. I'm new to the face painting world. Me and the wife moved to Colombia a few years ago and we have recently decided to start a party recreation business. I have some questions about rainbow cakes.
I have bought 13 rainbow cakes.
Round sponges
A bunch of stencils.
A kit of brushes.
I have tried to use the stencils, but they don't look as good as they should. I bought the stencils because it's possible I may do events with over 200 kids and it would be a time saver.
If somebody could give me a step-by-step please. Like should I cut the sponges in half? How damp should the sponge be? And so on...
Thanks.

Here is a thread that may help with rainbow cakes: http://www.facepaintforum.com/t8452-arg-what-s-the-trick-to-using-rainbow-cakes?highlight=how+to+use+split+cakes
Lisa Joy Young has many utube videos using split cakes.

There are some stencils that are a cinch to use and others that are a little trickier. "Bad naughty word" stencils are a dream, but they are more for adding the illusion of a design or texture. Mylar stencils, like Silly Farm sells, are not as soft and flexible and the larger ones don't fit on little cheeks... The main tricks with stencils are the amount of water on your sponge and not letting the stencil slip once it's in place. Your sponge needs to be quite dry, otherwise the paint will seep under the stencil outlines. This does take practice.
Cut your round sponges in half. Spritz your rainbow cake with a bit of water and then drag the flat side of the sponge across the cake, making sure you pick up all colors equally. Then gently pounce the sponge over the stencil. Lift the stencil carefully when done.
In the past I have used the Mylar ones in the summer park when I have a long line waiting. I add a few little swirls and curls, outlines or starbursts and a poof of glitter. For the wee little ones I have done them on their leg.
If you are completely new to face painting then you will want to practice your sponge to water ratio on your own arm or leg until the balance becomes second nature. Hope that helps.

to get a good edge on ur sponge when you cut it in half make sure you hold it firmly in the palm of your hand until you have cut all the way through.

Re: how to use rainbow cakes?
I was wondering, if you want to start a business you follow classes or do an education first?
There you learn how to work with paint, brushes and other products.
Why my remark? Lately I hear so many so called professionals asking for advice. Not those questions professionals ask professionals but the kind you should know if you had an education in the profession you're doing. Last saturday I was teaching trend make-up on a promotion day for a company I work for. I had a lady on my chair to give her a new look. She told me she teached sort of beautician lessons and also worked with facepaint.
As she told me lots of the kids had allergies I asked what she did with the paint when they ended class.
.... Oh we put the lid on and put them away..... I explained that you should clean and dry paint to prevent it from getting moldy! She stared at me like she first heard it. And they teach children...
Not offending you expat, but giving advice to take classes so you will be prepared.

Use a breadknife to cut your sponges, makes it waaay easiertoget a straight edge.
