There is a circus coming to town this weekend and I was thinking about calling to see if they wanted a face painter. I was going to offer a PPF kinda deal where they would get $X.xx for every face I paint that day ($5 cheek, they get $2 I get $3, $10 face, they get $4 I get $6, etc.) What do you think? If they want a flat fee should I just ask for my normal hourly rate? I haven't done a PPF event yet and don't know what I should charge either, I'm thinking $5 for cheek art and $10 for a mask...TIA for your thoughts and advice!

I think it's a great idea to contact them, but I would offer a straight percent, instead of "this much of this price, and this much of THIS price". So much easier to calculate. And when I do that, I deduct expenses before they get their cut. I pay my help and guess-timate my product replacement cost.
Of course, the most advantageous way to get the gig is to get paid your hourly rate, but not everyone is able to convince them like Shannon Fennell can, lol!
As for pricing, someone wisely said that you should gauge your prices by the price of concessions. If they are paying $5 for a soft drink, go a little high. If they are getting a can of soda for a buck, you better go low.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!

FYI... most circuses and carnivals have their own FP/tattoo artists traveling with them. It is something the wives and kids of the carnies do.

Doesn't hurt to try though.

I have just started doing events/festivals my self last year. I normaly charge $5. for larger designs and $2. for smaller. They usely charge a flat rate for the space you use. Good luck, sounds like fun!!
