Tiger Practice Empty Tiger Practice

Post by MasterpieceFacePainting Mon Dec 12, 2011 4:25 pm

I tried my first tiger today, it took about 10 minutes including working out the layout and where I wanted everything to be so I could do it faster...

I'd love to know what you think or how I could improve it. Smile

great for a 1st tiger!! Better then my 1st.

only two small things I would change.

1. outline the teeth
2. skip the lines on the nose.

Keep up the awesome work!!! can't wait to see your next one!

The teeth were a bit of an afterthought, outlining them is a great idea!
Also I found that the nose looked a bit strange with nothing... But the stripes don't look quite right, maybe because they're a little messy?

Thanks Mana Smile

You are definitively on your way to some spectacular work!

when practicing my tiger lines, I will plop in front of a TV with a pot of black and a paint brush and continue over and over on my arms and legs until I run out of space. Then wipe it off and try again. My worst enemy is the tear drop. Me and girly designs just aren't seeing eye to eye. Smile Would love to see some of yours.

I think you did great! Your lines defining the top part of the eyes are right on, I have issues accomplishing this. I agree with Mana, you don't need the lines on the nose. You should be proud of yourself!

Here is my before and after tigers, the great ppl here on the forum helped me alot. The best advise I got was to keep the lines all pointing to a central point on the face and when you do the lines, go from thin to thick to thin. I like to wiggle my lines a bit too.

Very good! I really like your wispy muzzle! I like sets of 3 or 4 stripes together. I love Mark Reids tigers. They really inspire me to work on my stripes Smile

Here are my latest. Smile

CottonKandy, I gotta ask. How did you get the blue SO glittery without getting glitter everywhere else?

Very carefully! Laughing I lay the base down first and let it dry. Then I paint the blue under the eyes and take my finger and dab it on. I don't put the stripes down until after it dries really good.

I would suggest to definitely make all the lines go to the center of the face and thin to thick to thin line practice. In front of the tv is a great tip. Also, I never put anything on the nose because it widens the face and makes it more tiger like. However, you did a great job and it would totally pass as a professional face paint. Wink

Great for a first tiger!

I found that Mark Reid's Fantasy Cats gave me some good tips on colour blending, line work and line curves. He also always talks about the lines working towards a central point (lines pointing towards one focal point) - usually the bridge of the nose or the corner of the eyes etc. This gives it order. Tigers are actually much harder than they appear...
