Mixing glitter with mica?
I've been thinking of trying out glitter tats, and I was just wondering...
I've seen mica tats, and glitter tats, but no combination of the two. What would happen if you mixed some fine, iridescent glitter with mica? Has anyone ever tried this?
I like the idea of combining the shimmery opaque-ness of mica with the bling factor of glitter. I may have to buy some sample baggies and try it out!

Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
What about just combining the two separately on the same tatt? Guess I will try it...
Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
Thanks! I will definitely post my results. My only problem is that I need to buy body glue, but temperatures are now below freezing where I am, so I'm not sure if I should take the chance ordering the adhesive online! I'll check around at some beauty shops in town, and maybe I can find something for the meantime...
Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
If I get time I'll try it this weekend. I've got some really shimmery mica powders but I'm having a hard time using them in face painting, maybe tattoos will be better.

They work nicely with tatts...darker colors leave a shading for me, so I leave the stencil itself on while I apply...
Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
Okay! I just ordered a bunch of lovely mica, and iridescent fine glitter... and a bunch of stencils! I am so pumped to try this out! It's going to be hard to wait patiently for my supplies to arrive!!!

Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
I do both on the same tatts, but don't do the dusts OVER the glitter, it dulls it. Put any areas of mica/ dusts on 1st. This was black mica with coloured glitters
glitter added as was meant to be all back but the kung-fu expert I was doing it on saw a sparkly doodle on my arm and wanted that!
I use eye-shadow coloured micas and metallic powders a lot too, the same way...
am hoping you can see the gold dots etc there
and
etc...

Ooooh, those are absolutely lovely, Cat! I love the idea of using both black mica and glitters on the same tat, it produces a really nice effect.
Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
I didn't think about it until I saw your picture but using mica on the face with glitter tats would take out the "sandpaper" factor and make them safer to use. So Cat, can I use the Ben Nye powders like Mica? You mentioned using eyeshadows....

What a great idea.
Cat, how do you apply the glue? I have seen many say that regular brushes get ruined in the process, and some leave bristles behind.
Whatever you're doing, it's FABULOUS.
Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
I rarely use brushes as NONE of the remover clean them properly so you pretty much need a new 1 every time. After a lot of searching I have found these:
and they are fab as the applicator tips screw on and lock tight so it doesn't explode ike the glitzer etc bottles, plus can be even finer lines.
If I have to I use a flat brush like this:
There are videos of me doig it on you-tube and on my www

And I reckon probably any cosmetic powder is Ok - try it. I will say that some of the eyeshadows last less long but I use Graftobian/ mehron gold & silver a lot, and some of the Barry M dazzle powders. Its a nice contrast to have smooth n shiney rather than just gritty sparkly or flat matt like the normal 'real' looking black mica.
Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
As you see in that pic, it is glossier than skin. Depending on the light you can see it OK most of the time.
I also usually mix a few drops/ crumbs of face paint into the glue so it dries clear but with a tint of colour, that makes it easier. Like here;
the browner areas are where I glued over paint I'd stencilled thru a home-made stencil. As you can see the wetter/ newer tinted glue is still pastel pink & opaque but goes clearer see-through pink as it dries.

Kat, I will swap with you--if you will send me glitter glue applicators, I will send you the MS daubers/pouncers!

Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
You do mean the double-ended TAG ones with the rubberised hourglass middle bit not the martha stewart or wood/ plastic handles ones, yes?
If yes -
DEAL- I just checked and she's not selling the daubers any more either...
Can you pls email me cat@cats-creations.co.uk and we'll sort it out?
Cheers,
Cat

Wow Cat! Thanks for sharing. Will be going to check out your videos.
What you are able to produce with that tiny applicator is astonishing.
(and the patience...Whoa!)

Re: Mixing glitter with mica?
It's faster than paint, really - you just glue carefully then slap on the glitter when its dry!
