Went to Rave this weekend for fun and business. Got to paint a lot of Black Light activated paint and paint my 1st bald head.

I wanted to share. I did a bunch of Zipper ideas and got a great response.

Those are so neat...did you use real zippers???? I thought you'd painted them on but they look so incredibly three dimentional? Where did you get the zipper ends and how did you attach them??

they are real. I just cut them out of an old coat I had, which had several pockets zippered and the main one. I used liquid latex to get them to stick. Super easy!

What a great "thinker out of the box" you are! Did you just use the ends and paint on the zipper area? or did you cut out the entire zipper and trim it down then glued it on...the black looks 3D so i didn't think they were just painted lines...man I have so much to learn! bounce

I cut the entire zipper out and glue the entire thing on. The black line is the zipper itself. I cant take credit for the idea. I saw the awesome Becstar Anthony do it way before me.

Oh poor you...but I bet you looked very funny! Thanks for the great tip...I'm off to root out my old box of 'zippers cut from old clothes that for some reason I actually thought I'd be able to recycle in clothing form' This is SO much better. Did you have trouble with the zipper fabric fraying?

I cut ALL the fabric off, so no fraying. When I lay the zipper in the liquid latex I try to twist it out at a diagonal to get it look 3-d more. (on my cheeks).

Tip I learned. Look for zipper that the pull tab is a different color then just black, like the rest of the zipper. (like my last pic of the reptile man)

Easier to see that it is actually a zipper. A lot of people never realized that my face had a zipper because it was all black.

Could I get liquid latex at some place like Michael's Crafts? I'm so wired to try this that I can't bear to wait for a face painting shop order!!! I know nothing about liquid latex...does it dry fast? Is it in a tube making it easy to use? Sorry to be such a numpty...this forum has taught me SO much!

If you are going to use liquid latex, restrict the use to adults, and if you are doing it at a festival or PPF situation, you need to have a waiver or disclaimer of some sort. Latex allergies are really common and can be bad. ALWAYS ask the person up front and explain why you are asking.

How much extra do you charge for the zipper? It's a fantastic idea, and it opens up face painting to a whole new market.

I make them sign the waiver and wouldn't think of using them on kids..... just for adults. I always ask about the allergy too, I used to be allergic to it, but must have grown out of it. So I understand the devastating effects it can create. I had to be hospitalized to be able to breathe.

I got the liquid latex at a party store (Party City) It is big right now because it is used to apply Halloween prosthetics. Look near the zombie blood Very Happy

I charge an extra $3 for a zipper because if I bought them at Walmart, they are $2 a piece. I personally haven't broken down and bought them yet....but in case I get to that point. Very Happy

Awesome...just AWESOME! So creative!! Makes me want to try painting an open chest on my little brother (in his 20's)...he had open heart surgery and has a scar on his chest that apparently heart patients refer to as their "zipper." Oooh, the wheels that are turning...

I'm cutting up old zippers right now (well not this very second) I didn't think of a waiver....what kind of wording do you use for your waiver? I didn't even think of latex allergies! Amazing how much I've gleaned just from this one like! Thank you Manabanana!!!
