Glitter gel in a henna cone?
I've been you-tubing henna stuff lately, preparing to make the plunge. I saw a gal who was demo-ing a glitter gel application using a henna cone. Looks fantastic! I don't care much for the bottles and have some glitter I'm ready to mix up but don't want to buy more of them. I do, however, have the mylar (?.. clear stuff you can wrap baskets in) that I could make cones from.
Has anyone tried this? Does the end dry up and clog? How well does it keep?
Thanks, guys!

they don't dry out too badly at all actually as long as you make sure you put them in smaller cones. I make my own glitter gel, but I've also transferred my Mark Reid into cones for ease of use. If you get a clog, just 'pinch and pull' to unclog. Small cones means you will likely use it all before it has a chance to dry out.
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
You are both awesome and informative, as usual, Shannon!
And... Thanks for the tip Mendhi! I think I'll try it out this weekend... and it will give me some cone-rolling practice.

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Ahhh, I just posted a similar question on another thread... don't suppose you have any pics you are willing to share? How did it work for you? I am really keen to give this a go too. Thanks in advance.
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
The pix on the henna page are pretty much what it looks like! A henna cone stuffed joyfully full of sparkly stuff! Only difference between what it looks like out of a bottle or a cone is the applicator! :-)
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Sorry, what I meant was... what the artwork looked like
IActually, I'm more interested in using a prosaide or cosmetic glue in the henna cone or applicator, so it lasts longer on the skin. Anyone tried that? Or would it just clog up the applicator and be really annoying?

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Fun2Play The glues are way too thin in my opinion to put thru anything like that. I tried a small tipped jaq bottle and it just ran out like water and Ididn;t have the control i wanted. If it were thicker (henna style) can you imagine the amazing things we could do with glitter tattoos!?!?!?! And no, I still haven't figured out how to fre hand them without gumming up the brushes/wasting glue so I am a slave to the stencils for the moment LOL

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
I have tried it in a cone and you just have to make sure the hole is SUPER small and you have to work fast...but if not, hennacaravan.com now carries jaq bottles with a special tip for this. Because it takes almost no pressure, it's not a thumb stress threat.
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
I have an applicator bottle with a very fine tip currently filled with derivan glitter gel (for face and body). But i don't like it because it doesn't dry on the skin, so I've hardly used it. Except to try out a henna style pattern on my own hand.
Soooooo... I'm going to empty and wash it out then try refilling it with a little pros-aide glue. If it works, you'll be the first to know.
... I'm back and I'm sad to report that you were right, the glue is too liquid/runny, even with the very tiniest hole on the applicator. It almost worked though. It would be interesting to see if adding a little cornflour to the glue would thicken it a little, but I don't have a lot of glue to go experimenting with so I may leave it until I order my next bottle.
*sigh* I really wanted that to work.
Thanks for the link to the henna caravan Mehndi Masala. *double sigh* Great website, and somewhere else to spend any hope I have of making a profit, lol! At a glance, the tattoo stencils look interesting and different from the others I've seen. When I'm getting low on stock I'll be back to place an order, for sure.

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
For what I understand is, you can make your own glittergel by adding glitter to clear aloe vera gel? You can make it as thick as you want and then put it in a henna cone?
Ore am I thinking too simple?

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Yup! Actually superhold extrastrength hair jell will also work well. Glitter plus some mica works well and is really economical.
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
I know the original post was on glitter gel, but since it went in the direction of ProsAide glue in henna cones and the thickness of it, I just wanted to mention that ProsAide makes a cream - it is the glue mixed with cabosil (which is a fumed silica) and I mix cream and glue to get the thickness I want. I use a syringe with a fine blunt tip because I can control the suction and how fast it flows.....

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Thanks for the tip Noella.
Google gave me the following lead: with instructions on how to do it.

But now I'm wondering, where do I buy the cabosil from?

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
I've first found cabosil used in marine (boat building/repair) - it's used with fiberglass and resin there. I've found it more recently at sculpture supply houses.... Be careful if you get the raw stuff - it's very fine powdery silica - breathing hazard. I buy the cream because then I don't need to worry about wearing masks to mix it in.....

Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Hmmm... wondering how safe that is for cosmetic application. It is commonly used in the industry? I may try cornflour instead. I have it in my pantry and I am confident it is non-toxic.
Re: Glitter gel in a henna cone?
Very commonly used - it's only dangerous in it's dry form. It's used because it is inert and doesn't react with the glue.

You can do a similar thing by mixing the glue for hours - it allows it to evaporate without drying out and curing.
