Adult design menu
Hello Face Painting World,
Well I had fun painting at an Egyptian Party. Some party goers wanted egyptian stuff but a lot of the adults didnt...and my mind went blank. I could not remember some adult designs because Im used to doing kids parties. All my designs seemed to look alike...swirls, curls, tear drops... I wish I could have done much ,more but my mental pictures were erased..Could have been the fear of this being my first all adult party.. I didnt get any complaints but they were overly please with the work, but it wasnt good enough for me. Im hard on myself at times.
So I would like to start an adult menu in order for us (me) to get some idea to share for adults.

I have found (in my short time as being a FP) that modifying and simplifying the "usual" face painting faces make them more appealing for the adult venue.
Less is more.

I posted a few google searchs that may help.
Best of luck!

Oh...
something I saw on FB, bur, can't remember who posted it....
They took rhinestones that were swirly/curly (in this case, clear an/or pearls) and placed them near the corner of the eye, above brow, between eyes, and then used black, or a complimentary color to their clothing and made a few thin swirly/curly designs.
It looked beautiful!!!!
kudos to the artist that did those designs.. I'm terribly sorry that I didn't save their name/image... grrrrrrrowling at myself)

Re: Adult design menu
In my experience adults either want, in the case of women, eye designs, or, in the case of men, the same as the kids!
As most of my display photos are of adults there is no need to have a separate display.

Re: Adult design menu
I was looking for some adult designs too and I found a design that I think I have seen before on this forum. Whose is it? Did they have your permission to post your design? After that "Inspiring vs copying" thread I try to be very careful with those issues...
The design I'm talking about is in the bottom of this link:

I see Kim Brennan and Ashley Pickin on that website. You might want to pm them to give them a heads up.
Re: Adult design menu
For women you can just type "eye design face painting" in the google search bar at search images. Guys like funny or retro designs. Things that are cool in the funny sense.

I PM them. Hope this helps ...

Re: Adult design menu
I don't think any of those photos actually belong to the artist, I just can't put my finger on who they belong to. I think one MIGHT be Lisa Joy Young??? I can't remember where, but I think there is a Facebook page dedicated to just figuring out who the real owners of the photo are and contacting them.
Re: Adult design menu
Guys, I'm finding, are really into tribals (thanks to Mike Tyson) along the side of the eye/face. That's been the most dominant thing that I've seen I think.
Small eye designs that compliment the outfits are def the most popular with women. I've found they tend to be much more into the colors than the design differences.
Although, at a wedding I was recently face painting at there were women who wanted mustaches so you never know! lol

Re: Adult design menu
If it is an all adult party, I often end up painting pin-up girls in some shape on the men (the women normally just want pretty eye designs, but sometimes guy versions of the pin-up ones). Since I find it boring painting just a naked girl, I paint them like elfs, fairies, mermaids and so, with a long hat, hair or something covering some parts, matching the theme of the party, if that is possible.

Re: Adult design menu
Thanks for posting this thread!!
I have always had trouble with adult designs! I classify my style as coloring book type... bold lines, solid colors... even though I have been trying to advance my art, I am having trouble getting the hang of some things.
I will say that I have found that most adults that I have painted want smaller designs by the eye. Men either like skulls, flames, or things from sports teams. Humorous type things are popular too. Some adults like tattoo type designs too.
Bec does some great ones on youtube... can't remember her channel at the moment.

Yes, either on their arm or cheek (or head if they are bald...) I can try to find time to some step-by-steps, if there is an interest?

Re: Adult design menu
Has anyone ever taken the approach at an adult party of just doing Fantasy transformations, and you don't let them pick. You say "I will make you something colorful, party ready and fantastical, but we won't know what it will be until we're done... What is your favorite color?"
I did this the other night at a small party, inspired by an author that taught at FABA and his approach (last name Agostino- embaressed I can't recall his name right now.) and it really went quite well. Just did abstract, eye and face designs, and had tons of fun!

Re: Adult design menu
I got booked for an adult birthday - 30 yrs. EVERYONE of them went with "the usual" stuff... I painted: Optimus Prime, Starchild from Kiss, The Joker, a Tribal Skull, a freaky Clown, sort of Alice Cooper/Crow, Evil Doll, and matched costumes generally (it was a costume party). The guys absolutely loved it.

Re: Adult design menu
The fantasy approach works well for me. I just did an all adult party on Friday and none of them knew what I was going to do when they sat down and every single one of them were elated with their results. All I heard all night was them fighting for the camera to get another photo of their painting.
People never know what you can do until they see it. Be confident, earn their trust and they'll usually let you paint whatever you think will work best for them. They are not the artist and they know that. They've rather have you in charge. Trust your judgment and run with it.

Photos are great. I love the idea of the rasta party. I saw one painting with a Bob Marley silhouette in the eye. I was nice.

Re: Adult design menu
I paint a lot of eye designs for women or a simple flower vine design usually. Some butterflies cute and simple as well. Guys usually have a pic on their iphone to show me what they want. I have done sports logos, beer brands, a trout fish, I heart mom tattoo style hearts, tyson wanna be designs, and mustaches with soul patches. I have also had guys go big with tigers, spiderman, skeletons etc. I dont think you neccessarily need a picture board for adults because you can pretty much get them to use their i phones etc for ideas and explain to them your own ideas and they go with it most of the time.
