Post by nikisteel Sat Jul 02, 2011 5:56 pm

Hi, Newbee Nanna here. Does anyone know what the difference is between the Diamond FX Gold Metalic and the Old Gold Metalic? Which do you prefer and why?
Also, I would like to add some "shiney" paint to my base paint collection. Ie, pearlized white, gold, silver. Any suggestions on brands or colors? Is there a pallet of metalics that you know of?
Thank you,
Just Nanna

I would suggest you have a look at Tag's Pearl range.
The pearl white is lovely - actually all the pearls are lovely.

Thanks Tash. I was just poking around the TAG website. They have a small pearl pallet that might be good for me since currently I just do my grandkids and their friends.
I also saw BenNye Lumiere Lux Powders. Does anyone know about those?

I have both. The old gold is a richer deeper gold without going into being a bronze, not as yellow as the traditional gold. I just about all the DFX metallics and the colors are very rich in hue and vibrant.

TAG old gold is beautiful and creams up nicely...no glumps. I used it for the Taj Mahal crown on myself...it's probably hosted in my gallery. Nice for sponging and linework.

Do you all order your TAG product on-line? That gold is really pretty.

I am pretty sure you can only get TAG online. I don't know where you are located, but you can purchase TAG in the Forum Shop.

The "pearl" is TAG's Metallic line. Instead of Metallic they call it pearl.
BTW, imo, for a combo of quality and price, TAG is the best you are going to get. Metina has good prices as well. Cheapest I have found by far, and cheapest shipping to boot!

I ordered tag pearls from the forum shop and LOVE them - the purple, pink and silver butterfly I make with them has been THe go-to thing for girls these past couple of days, they're so shiny and intense. (With white tag accents for hilighting Smile)

I was just thinking I'll need to order some more of them as I don't want to run out.

I also like the look of the old gold that I've seen in several examples on this forum - it looks really rich.

I love my TAG pearl gold. Very pretty, couldn't of been happier with the effect, and I got it here. You won't find TAG cheaper than from Metina's shop

DFX Gold Metalic Paint Empty Re: DFX Gold Metalic Paint

Post by Sparklyone Sun Jul 03, 2011 1:19 am

I started with the Wolfe metallic/neon palette and wound up loving them and using them both so much that I have most of the neons in large cakes now and cakes of the gold, silver, and metallic white. However, I don't find the Wolfe metallic good for linework at all. Also Wolfe doesn't have a light pink metallic (their "rose" metallic is my go-to lipstick but it's not the bright sparkly pink most girls want). I do like their white metallic sponged over almost any other color to soften and add dimension. The green and blue metallics are wonderful and rich, love them esp. for boys hero masks and girls mermaid designs. Not overly impressed with their metallic red so far but I really haven't had much change to use it.

I just placed my second Forum Shop order and it included TAG pearl cakes in purple and pink. After using the TAG neon rainbow cakes I was hooked on TAG and can't wait to get more! Everyone is right about the best prices, plus low and FAST shipping not to mention supporting an awesome forum. I love you

Thank you for all the replies. It really helps.
Sounds like I should place an order for TAG pearl paint. I know that I want white and gold for sure. Do you think I should get the pearl pallet plus the single cake of white? Or should I get single cakes of white and gold and maybe one or two other colors of pearl to try out?
Has anyone tried the snaz doter wand? Does it work well?
I do not do this as a business. Just for fun but I am absolutely LOVING it. All I want to do is Paint Paint Paint.

I am sorry for being such a bother but I have so many questions.
I am looking in the fourm shop and it looks like DFX metalic is much more vibrant than the TAZ pearls. Is it just the pictures or does it go on more vibrant? I see that TAZ is less expensive too.

I'm going to try the TAG pearl gold instead of the DFX metallix gold that I currently use... I was going to try the Mehron metallic powder over top of my DFX as others have suggested, has anyone used it with the TAG gold?

I bought the Snaz dotter brush and NEVER use it. It seemed like a good idea at the time but then I figured out how to make nice dots with a regular brush (the Mark Reid #4 is my best brush for dots), and that is just so much faster and easier. I should post it in the swap section.
