Paint my whole face gold! Yes or no?
So what do you say to the kid who insists the only thing he wants is his entire face painted one solid color. Most recent request was for gold which once I immediately regretted as it mostly just looked brown and in very bad taste. I've had requests like this several times, this particular kid explained he wanted to look like a gold block in minecraft. I had noone else waiting and tried to talk him into a cool 3d cube that would actualy look like a minecraft 'block' but "no, just my whole face gold please". The mothers are never any help, they just shrug and say "whatever they want".
Do you guys just go with it or insist on something else?

when given a request like that, i just have to give them the best version of that as possible....
when i did the gold, i did a base of tag gold, topped off with some gold metal powder, and outlined with some gold glitter gel.
hey, it's whatever they want...lol..if i had some some gems, i would've added them too.

Re: Paint my whole face gold! Yes or no?
there was a boy who asked me, clear as day, for a half gold, half green face.
i had no idea what he was asking for...
he said "please, just paint my whole forehead green and all of my face gold".
i'm like...uh.....can you point in my kit to the right shade of green?
he picked out some lime green, then points to his forehead and says "all of this needs to be just green"...i said "like a mask?"
he says "NO, just green.only green and gold"
man, i had NO IDEA what look he was going for, and his mom didn't either.

I had a teenage boy ask for this last spring at a birthday party. I did the gold base and added some gold mica powder for extra shine. He loved it. It looked cool on him.

Oh, Minecraft. You bring all the boys to the yard. And I'm like - It's better than...no wait, fine, whatever, you can be lime green and black.
Re: Paint my whole face gold! Yes or no?
If there had been some green or something else it would not have been so bad. I did a cool minecraft-like pixelated face once that was super cool, but this kid wanted all gold. The unfornutate thing is that it looked like distasteful 'blackface' makeup in the end. I felt awful considering we were surrounded by a variety of ethnicities and skin tones in the restaurant.
Guess this one was a learning experience, the kid was happy at least!

Yeah, I hear you, and completely understand the cringefactor. Which gold were you using?
Re: Paint my whole face gold! Yes or no?
Paradise, it came in a pallette of metalics I got talked into buying, not crazy about it honestly.
I just ordered some wolfe gold, along with the precious hard to find, wolfe white
I'm still trying out different brands looking for my favorites, my daughter is enjoying playing with my dislikes! She and I are trying to copy flowers form the 'Croods" movie right now. Pretty ideas!

I used tag gold, it is really shiney, more yellow than brown.
have you ever tried doing the gold OVER another color like orange or yellow so it could stand brighter?
if you don't have gold powder, I highly recommend it.

Down the road, you might also look into Kryolan's interferenze bronze. It's like molten gold.

Good idea about the yellow base. In other designs with this gold I've always used a little gold glitter on top but this instance it was the weird request combined with not to nice results.
I think sometimes I need to just say no when I don't feel confident in what the results will be with these odd requests.
I have some powders but not a gold. Just buying and trying a little at a time.

the boy asked for this pixel thing.....couldn't imagine doing it on his face, so I did a little one on his arm.
he was happy, this is just his "I'm a boss" face that his best friend requested.lol.

That's kind of like what I did on one boy's whole face, the brother of "paint my whole face gold" in fact! Different events though, I think this family is stalking me with weird requests!nikkili26 wrote:

It's a PC platform game with poor graphics that look like Lego people and you build things out of 3D cubes and gather goods and such. I just found out it was originally made by a Swedish programmer.

For me the person in the chair decisions, if parent is pushing for a certain painting I asked them to get in the chair so that they can have it.
I have no problem with a full gold base however I would recommend the glitter so it looks gold. Or do highlights and shading with yellow, or shimmer powers.
I have painted many minecraft gold nuggets(sometimes they call them butter bars?).

Re: Paint my whole face gold! Yes or no?
great point-if you can't make it look good in your head, don't attempt it on their face.
I take my creative imagination for granted sometimes....
just say NO.no shame in saying no if you can't do it right the first time.
