This is a question to all, who have done events in a hot southern sun: How do you keep your paints from melting? Even with a shade, mine could not stand up to even 85 degree weather. I cannot imagine them holding up in the actual summer! lol

Well... I only have one hot weekend a year, but I carry fresh cakes of black, white and red. When the black in my palette gets too gooey, I switch to the new cake... it works for me, but I am not working in the heat on a steady basis.

I've heard that some use ice packs under their palettes.

I put ice packs under my palettes, it doesn't last forever but it helps. I would suggest a small cooler with ice or ice packs to switch out colors when one gets to melty, like shannon black, white and red. Also I think maybe angie or metina said they move a little over to the lid to work it out, which also seems like a good idea

To Eva: What do you mean move over to the lid? Do you mean, just spreading some paint over the lid (like a palette) and using it from there, instead of the main cake?

What brand of paints are you using? Some melt more in sun than others.

DFX is a low water paint. Don't spray or wet the whole cake. It will get gloppy. poke a hole in the paint w/ the end of your brush(all the way to the bottom of the pot). Drip some water off your brush into the hole. Work it into a good consistency for linework & just keep adding water as needed. For sponging, spray your sponge, not your paints. This will help keep them dryer.

For Snaz, you'll need to have ice packs under the paints. They are so waxy that they melt easier. You might need a back up black & white in a cooler & have to swap them out.

In super hot weather I use powders for the base & dfx for the linework.

Good to know. I use Snaz, but got some Wolfe, so will see how they hold up.
