Prom Designs Empty Prom Designs

Post by fluttersby Sun Mar 20, 2011 10:08 am

I know there are other threads with a few designs that would be appropriate for prom and other fancier occasions. I think in the area where I live this would be a great opportunity. I have been racking my brain and I have a few ideas that I am going to be working on over the next few days. Unfortunately I have no one to paint on, except my own arm and legs. I work with several teens who are probably going to prom so I can probably get a model.

If anyone has any ideas, please post. I think combinations of flowers, butterflies, even elegant glitter tattoos (even if they are freehand) and crystals would be beautiful. The school is even having an after prom party to keep the kids out of trouble, and it runs until like 2am, so I am going to try to get in there too, with just fun stuff.

I painted some teenagers that wanted like a neon zebra eye design or leopard eye. They told me they would like that for prom to match the color of their dress. Maybe fun abstract designs.

I am really going to have to "feel out" the kids in this area for wanting anything on their faces. Every event I have gone to (except Halloween) I end up doing designs on arms and hands, even smaller kids. I always hear, "It's not Halloween." I think alot of things are regional. I don't know why it's like that around here, I guess because there haven't been any real face painters in the area (until now that is). Not having young kids of my own to paint has hampered me somewhat, since I can't paint them and take them out and show them off, but since spring is on its way and outdoor events are about to be happening, I will get out and market myself more and more. I didn't get my paints until last September, so I haven't been doing it long. Thanks so much for the idea. I know the eye designs could be popular, but maybe after prom pics.

swirly eye designs are great for prom. If you need inspiration, we had an eye design contest as one of our monthly challenges last year. Also, the Snaz site has lots of eye designs you can use for inspiration. Here are a couple that I do:

These were inspired by designs on the Snaz site (I'm pretty sure, lol):

This was inspired by Michelle from this forum! Very Happy :

When I did prom last year, most of the girls just wanted colors to match their dress, using painted blended like eyeshadow, covered in mega sparkly glitter. (I used a poofer). Liner and I glued on some swarovski crystals extending from the corners of the eyes. Sparkle sparkle sparkle.

Thanks for those ideas. I am pretty sure they are not going to want it on their faces. I am going to print out some pictures of some designs just for show (that I will do, no stealing pics) just to feel it out. The girls might like it but parents usually pay for prom pictures and the people around here, like I said in my earlier post are not face design friendly. I have some time to change it though and there is an after prom event. I only work 1 day next week so I will be doing lots of painting.

I want all of you to know that I am not putting down your beautiful eye designs. I love them. I just know what I have encountered so far here with face painting. I have some things in my head that I need to get onto paper I guess and then find some skin to paint it on, but I know how talented everyone on this forum is. I really need to break the ice around here as far as face and body art goes. They are just not open and friendly to it, and I broke into it totally at the wrong time and I have not been to the right venues yet. Thank you for your responses and I am going to keep each and every one of them in mind for this.

Prom Designs Empty Face Painting Promo and Rave Faces

Post by LillyW Mon Mar 21, 2011 7:02 pm

When I do promo/rave/dance stuff, it always seems to be a few fancy eye swirl designs to match what they are wearing. I have a few things here http://www.funfacepainting.com/promsandparties.html

And check out Annie Reynolds eye designs! She is just AMAZING, http://www.westcoastfacepainters.com/anniereynolds.html

See sent me this photo to help promote her upcoming California class in June (already full). But, you might get prom-inspiration from it Smile)

That is really cool. I don't know. The way you guys are ALL talking, I might have to change the way I am thinking and go for eye designs. Do you guys paint at prom or do before hand stuff by appointment? I think our prom is April 16th so I only have less than a month to prepare.

You'd be really hard pressed to get a gig to be AT the prom. You're best bet is to get appointments before hand. You can have them meet you at your place or you can go to them. Just remember to charge them accordingly taking into consideration whether you drive to them and how fancy the design is. You could probably get more than your usual rate for a prom design.

Also, knowing from recent expirience, it'd be a good idea to figure out a way to keep the designs from sweating off by using a barrier spray or setting powder.

I am going to have to find all of this out. My son is going to the prom with his girlfriend so it will not be hard to do. I can probably even practice on her. She is beautiful so that's a bonus. Even if I don't do any prom stuff I want to try to get into the after prom party that is put on by the KAPUT (I think that means something like kids and parents and teachers). That would have to be a paid gig by the school because they won't want the kids to have to pay. I'm going to have to have stuff that juniors/seniors in high school will want and both boys and girls. I have been working on temporary tattoos too, so that can even be an option for that, but with time constraints, they will not be heavily detailed.
