Red/Pink on the eyes?
What have I missed? It seems like some people are referring to something about not putting red or pink near the eyes. Why?
Re: Red/Pink on the eyes?
When I got my first little 8 color pallette of Paradise there was a little insert that specifically said not to use the red/pink on eyes, and not to use the blue on lips. (I don't have the paper anymore or I'd post it) Now why, I have no idea.

Check this link from the FDA website:
http://www.fda.gov/ForIndustry/ColorAdditives/ColorAdditiveInventories/ucm115641.htm
Scroll down to the pink area. You will see that only certain colorants are allowed near the eyes and lips. There are only so many colorants available - in some cases you can either have a pigment or dye that works around the mouth or one that works around the eyes.
If something isn't approved it may not necessarily mean that the colorant isn't safe - it just may be that no one is championing the push to really get it approved. That sort of thing is expensive!!

I wonder if it has to do in case of a medical emergency. Blue lips = no oxygen. Red eyes= bleeding. Just a thought.
Re: Red/Pink on the eyes?
I put snaz pink on the eyes all the time and i use a rainbow cake on the eyes. I use them on myself, my kids, and so far no complaints.
Re: Red/Pink on the eyes?
There was a big discussion a while back on this subject. It seems that the pigments in red have a tendency to cause skin reactions more than other colors on people who have sensitive skin. Since the eye lids are some of the most sensitive parts of the body they are subject breaking out more readily. This is not a universal rule, just a few people are effected but.....you don't know who they are until you paint them. I avoid red for the eyes because of this, but I have never, never had a reaction with pink and have used it A LOT since little girls LOVE LOVE LOVE pink LOL. It really is a shame 'cuz there is an absolutely adorable ladybug design for the eye that found here on the forum some time ago and can not use it because of the red issue .
I seem to remember that the blue and green issue was more of a preference based on the oxides in the paint causing bad breath or something like that...can't give you a definite on that one.

The back of my 12 color wolf pallet says red, pink, orange, light green, sea green, and lilac should be kept away from the eyes and light green, sea green, and lilac be kept away from the lips.
I don't think I have been following this so I will have to work on remembering to avoid those colors with those areas.
