Post by ruths fab faces Mon Aug 09, 2010 10:18 pm

Hello everyone i need to vent some. I often do festivales where another facepainting company paints also. I don't mind competion ,this company used to have a board that offered not that great of designs ,poor selection .I keep my price the same as the comp. and I offer a great selection of fantastic designs and never had a worry until I got a call from my sister to come check out the new board the company put up to draw in customers .Well a large portion of the pics they put up were other face painters pics. Some were silly farm pics some snaz index pics and some were pics from other face painters from this forum. I mean some pics were of the face painter that had painted themselves and they posted as their pic on the board can you belive it. I don't think its right to entice customers with other peoples pics that you no you can't paint .We all have our stash of pics we would like to recreate but we don't put them out on our display board. People won't know that this company can't paint the pic as posted untill after they have paid and been painted. What do you think?

First... do you have a website for this company? Are they posting the "stolen" photos there too? Do you have photos of the display they were using and/or names of the artists or able to specifically identify the photos they were using?

Individual artists could contact them with cease and desist letters/emails if you can provide more specific information.

I agree with you it is false advertisement unless they say the artist name on the picture. Did the snaz pictures have the little logo on them - they are suppose to write the name of the artist if they are going to use them on a display board - that is the rule of the site - Gary of snazaroo can get on their case if you can provide a picture of the display board and the name of the company to him.

I have not seen any of the pics in question on their web site ,just on the display board .They give no credit to the artist that did these designs .I really need too take a pic at the next event we are at of the display board . I don't know if this company is a part of this forum I don't want to name names .I will give a shout out to sparkling faces they had a pic of you on thier board of a mask you had painted on yourself .Maybe you gave permision I'm not sure .I really love your work and for them to pass it off as their work is not right.

It was one of the painted eye mask designs done with the white line work I think they snagged the pic from your web site gallery your standing against a plane wall for the pic .I will do my best to get a pic of the board as soon as i can .I didn't think that you would have let them use your pic like that.

Get a picture of their display board at their next event & get their website info so that all painters who've been stolen from can send them cease & desist letters. You will need physical proof.

If the said face painter is reading this forum & post, they will be forewarned & can stop now before it becomes a legal matter.

Rather than steal a picture... If you like a design, re-paint it on yourself or a model & get a picture of it. That copy is yours(just don't enter it into a competition:-)

Wow, I'm a total newb but even I know that's a total no-no. i'm practicing my butt off, and I've been trying to figure out how to make a display board when all I have for models is myself and my (really tired of it) daughter...but I would still never steal someone else's pics!

LOL. me too vampkat! But my "really tired of it" is my son, hehehe!

Sorry to hear about that kinda rotten character trying to get one up on you. They are obviously grasping to keep up. Great work on your end. Hopefully things can get resolved.

Is it just me, or are cases like these seeming to pop up more often now? I guess it's just a sign of the times that people are becoming too lazy to put in work of their own to acheive the results we all work so hard for.

People do it all the time. I was at an event and the lady around the corner was using a pic my cousin did on her daughter. Personally, I have done it from time to time when I was getting started, but only on faces I couldn't use with my mug... Nobody is gonna get a princess design with a guy as the model. Now of course I just bring my idea sheets.

Maybe I don't care because I put up so many pics and just tell people they can use my stuff... As long as they can actually do the design justice. After all, if they can't it is only going to make them look bad, not me.

Now, a website is completely different of course, but for boards, I don't care. I take it as a compliment.

Just my two cents. I am obviously in the minority on this one... But hey, somebody has to be.

hey clayton - I think the differentiator here would be someone using your pictures at an event you are working as well.... how would you feel then?

and they crop out your face so it's just the design so people can't even tell it's you?

I would be fuming...

No I understand what you mean by taking it as a compliment, in a "way" I do, but I dont want this ugly mug plastered on someone else's board!!!

Lol, if she was trying to insult anyone, it would be herself. I get what psalmbook is saying, however I always made sure I could paint anything I put up on my board. You just aren't going to see any pics of me trying to figure out how to paint them on myself.
