Airbrushing- negative space stenciling
I was at a high school event today (working a bouncy house...don't ask! lol) and I saw that the art students of the school were using stencils to airbrush, but instead of the center image being cut out, that was the solid. They zipped the airbrush over it and created a negative space image.
Now, it wasn't very artistic, but perhaps it could be?
However it had a very nifty graffiti look to it with a ragged paint edge, that the students seemed to like (coulda been because it was free and their friends were doing it though. I admit that.)
Obviously, they created this on the fly (using the wrong inks and craft/paper stencils) but it got me thinking about the plausibility of this in an airbrush booth as an option.
Thoughts?

that could actually be a good... no... amazing idea! I've toyed with the idea of combining the two arts... air brushing and using facepaints on top to add more details. But that negative space could be filled in with the face paints to get the best of both worlds! I like it!

I'll make y'all a deal here. If you want to try this, contact me and I'll produce any of my regular stencil designs for you as a POSITIVE image that will work for this. You might want to consider using some of my smaller images in a large size to facilitate the airbrushing without being too delicate.
I even have quite a few genuine "graffiti" fonts that would lend themselves to a "tagged" look.
This could be fun!

Re: Airbrushing- negative space stenciling
At FABAIC, Andrea O'Donnell introduced her new line of stencils. She handed out smaller versions with her contact info on it (genius), and I love them. They all had a pattern or two, an image of sorts, and the edges were decorative. I attended her bodyart class and we got to try them out, and the edges were awesome, and could do that negative space. They were meant for airbrush, but I used her sample and did just fine with a dry sponge. Here's a link to what I did on Linda Adam's daughter... I wanted to try out all of my new stuff, and her daughter is georgous.

www.badassstencils.com but they are a bit pricey. (Andrea also taught a class on how to make your own stencils!!!)
