No Red Paint on Eyes???
Okay, so someone was watching one of my videos and said they read that you are not supposed to put red paint on eyelids... for some safety reason. Anyone else heard this? I don't use red on the eyes too often... but I was just wondering if they knew what they were talking about?
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Yeah I know what your talking about.
I tried looking for it around my house but couldn't find one but if you use paradise it says it on the side of the box and on the metallic pallet it was on the back, something about no yellow or red on the eyes and no blue or green on the mouth.
Have a look if you still have one of the little boxes around. I used to have one in my kit but I've misplaced it.

Paradise makeup aq:do not use red, yellow or orange in the area of the eye

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
I knew about red, but not the other colors & warnings. I've put red on my own eyes w/o trouble, but I do avoid it on others.
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Some of my Wolfe say 'do not use red based makeup around the eyes, some say 'do not use the following colors around the eyes: M40 M80'
snazaroo says 'should not be applied in the immediate eye area or to sensitive or broken skin. If unsure about sensitivity a patch test is advised...'
My DFX rainbow cake - I think it is called tropical says 'keep away from eyes'

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
MM, we had another thread on here about the same thing. I recall the information on the snaz site about the red on the eyes, having to do with the make up of that particular pigment, as well as the darker colors on the mouth and lips. Now even though I have not had a problem with staining on anyone I have painted, I do err on the side of caution with utilizing red close to the eye area. I usually let the bone structure be my guide, meaning I will place red at or above the brow bone and at or below the cheek bone which will keep you away from the entire eye socket area.
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Ah-ha! So that's why my daughter was complaining that her eye was burning!!! I was painting a ladybug on her eyelid and all of a sudden she started screaming in pain, telling me it was burning like crazy. And I was using Snaz red.... so I guess the lesson is don't use red on the eye area
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
its all coming together now...
i was practicing yesterday and had red teardrops near the corner of my eye and it was burning like crazy.....good to know.

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Red is one of those colors that is very hard to create without the use of stronger pigments.
Certain red pigments (usually the Red Lake pigments) cause greater sensitivity to the eyes, so anyone with already sensitive eyes is likely to react to having it too close to their eye.
As for the blues and greens on lips, that is an entirely different issue.
Blue, green, and purple pigments are not officially approved for use on lips if they contain Ferric Ferrocyanide (also called Prussian Blue) in higher quantities. Don't let the name fool you, it is not poison like regular cyanide, that is just the name of the mineral pigment. There are actually several pharmaceuticals that use this mineral.
The real problem with Prussian Blue is that if someone licks it off of their lips, it can cause bad breath.

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
I've read that too. I never put red right on the eyes if it can be helped, as the skin around the eyes is sooo much mroe sensitive than the rest of the face. Also, I'm less than generous on the blue and green on the face, because it can be hard to get the stain off if the right products are not used.

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
No reds around the eyes, no blues on the mouth... general rule of thumb.
It is the ingredients
Colbalt blue is often in blues which shouldn't be ingested. FD&C Blue No. 1 was a clear-cut bladder carcinogen in animal studies (with some evidence from human studies). Although this product is not directly ingested, these ingredients can be absorbed through the skin on the lips, or through the mucous membrane in the mouth.
Cadmium reds - pigment/dyes do not dissolve in water, hence do not use near the eye. All cadmium pigments are toxic.

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Look at the fda.gov site for the info on red
If you start at the novelty paints, thats where most of the face paints are covered and then move around to cosmetics that's enough to keep you busy for days. but all the answers are there.

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Thanks for all the info. I have never had any issues with it, but someone asked me. Huh... no more blue lips I suppose. What's funny is that the quick eye design book I grabbed had a spider eye thing, which had red around the eyes. Weird that they would put something like that in there when you are not supposed to put red on the eyes.
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Snazz says: "Blue, Green, Pink and Purple should not be used on the lips.
"Red, Orange, Yellow, Pink, and Purple should not be used in the eye area."
That takes away a lot of options....that can also explain why I can no longer wear contact lenses (2 months) due to an allergic reaction in my eyes. I was using rainbow colors on my eyes to make butterflies. Yipes!
I think I am sticking to cheek art. LOL!

Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Well what the heck? That is stupid. How are you supposed to paint full faces when half of the paints shouldn't be used around the eyes or mouth?
Re: No Red Paint on Eyes???
Clayton- The even more crazy thing is in their design book it shows them using those colors all over the face including eyes and mouth.

That's CRAZY!!! Would it be only on the Snaz..?
I use Pink and purple from snaz to do my butterflies..I never had a complaint..I also had tried it on me and nothing happened..
