Splitcake brands Empty Splitcake brands

Post by EerinArts Tue Apr 06, 2010 2:15 pm

I only have experience with the Eulenspiegel rainbow box and one little splitcake of which I forgot the brand name.
In the future I want to buy or make more splitcake, but I want to find out first.. which is best.
I want to know about how good the colors attach to the sponge/brush and how bright they stay when you use them. Which one is good, which one is not?
I love the sight of this for example:
Splitcake brands 2254026
But is it also good? Does it work well?
Or this one:
Splitcake brands IMG_5482
Boxes like that make me feel in love with splitcakes. But there are many, many other options.
Making it myself is also one.

So what do the splitcake experts advice? Very Happy

ooooooohhhh... that first picture makes me drool a little bit.

The only problem with such small rainbow cakes is that you will wear them down soooo fast. Like 1 or 2 gigs where you use them on every other kid because they all want to be the same thing.

Just a thought!

I make my own rainbow cakes w/the empty cases from Metina and DFX or Wolfe paints.

Thanks everyone!
I had to think a long time before I decided but in the end I made splitcakes myself. I used diamond fx and made three so far. (for now its enough).
They are:
-DFX black, old gold, metallic blue, light blue
-DFX black, copper, neon pink and pink
-DFX black, old gold, bronze, metallic green and neon green.
I have put it in little plastic boxes that are a tiny bit wider then 1 inch x.. about 2.2 inches. It was a search to find boxes like this.
Here they do not seem to sell boxes to make splitcakes in, I noticed that on this website they do. But I think the shipping would be a bit crazy for something so small.

But anyway yeeh! I have more splitcakes now!
I also ordered a one inch brush since I only have 3/4 brushes.

We are waiting! I wish I had know you wanted some minis, I could have brought them and mailed them to you from Germany. Oh well.

What you can do is put two minis in one with a shared middle color. Make two that share white in the middle or silver or something like that. Or you can take a sheet of rigid plastic used to make your own stencils and cut a small piece and seperate the two cakes in one by making a little barrier.

You can make a barrier for any size cake also this way. Oh....I just thought you could make four in a round cake if you sliced it into four and put in the plastic barriers. Sky is the limit really.

Hey there Smile
The mini`s is not the problem here, you can buy mini splitcakes without a problem. In this thread I was just wondering about what brand of splitcakes is seen as good and what is not.
But I think your idea about having a bigger box and a shared middle color is really good and easy to make. Maybe I will do that.

Ok, I am going to put the photo`s on the computer and then on internet, just some moments.

Ok Smile here they are.
The first shows the boxes that I used, people from Holland might recognize the kind and know that they are used for needles and such.
The second shows a bigger box that turned out to have three spaces that where exactly right for the boxes ^_^. And the last couple of pictures show the results, only.. I do not have my one inch brush so I had to use a smaller one two times for each splitcake.
My intention is to use only a little for the black when I make flowers and such, just a tiny edge.

I am just too much of a chicken to cut up my paints.... I like how nice and neat my palettes look... lol. But after seeing soooo many post from other forum members they have intrigued me to at least try to do one on my own. Great idea about the needle box, it's just long enough for great loading and just deep enough to cary a decent amount of paint. Now I just have to get my hands on a couple of extra sacrificial paint pots. We'll see how it goes
