Hi, i've a question about liquid bling, should I leave the white plastic cap on, then place the metal tip on before each gig? Or leave the metal tip on between gigs, and if it gets clogged up, what is the best way to open it back up? Thanks for your insite. Len

I only put on the metal tip AT the gig... and then put a pearl headed pin in it to keep it from clogging. Then, I remove the pin, the metal tip, and put the cap back on at the end of the job.

Wipe off the pins and stick in a sponge that I have in the container I store the bottle in, and put the tips in a small screw top jar (it is a one ounce jar that glitter came in!) with some alcohol.

Then when I get home I shake the container with the alcohol and tips and clean them out. The alcohol disolved the gel and the glitter usually floats out easily.

Don't leave the pins in the bottles - they corrode in the gel. If you've got gigs back to back, it would be okay, but don't leave them in the bottles for more than overnight as once they corrode IN the bottle you pretty much have to chuck that bottle of bling!

good to know... I only have one of them but the last time I tried to use it, it was so clogged it was a disaster and I haven't used it since.

Since we are on the subject, and I have no experience with glitter gels, I'm gonna ask. Does the gel dry in the 3-D form that it comes out of the container? or does it dry relatively flat? And how durable is it once it is dry?

liquid bling drys in 3d, now the glitterglam is easyier to apply with a bush, so it can be flat or 3d.

The Liquid Bling from Amerikan Body Art comes out dimensional, can take about 20 minutes to dry completely (depending how thick you've applied it) and when dry is flat and very durable. The gel evapourates as it dries. If you apply it and then spread it thinner it will dry faster.

The Snaz Glitter Gels have a very large size glitter compared to Liquid bling, and can therefore be a lot "thicker" when dried due to the flakes. I like to "spackle" it on with a flat tool or flat brush very thickly so no skin shows... it dries like fruit leather and you can peal it off!

The only thing to watch is that when you apply the gels from a squeeze bottle that you have to make sure that you have the gel in actual contact with the skin everywhere... sometimes with the applicators bottles contact isn't maintained consistently and as it starts to dry the glitter loses contact and falls off (I've had lots of little dots fall into my coffee part way through a gig! liquid bling Icon_lol ) So make sure that you are actually touching the surface to ensure contact is made!

Well... if you apply the Bling in very thick lines or in rounded dots it CAN stay somewhat dimensional, but I've found it goes flat most of the time as I don't tend to put it on too thickly.

There is a brand that stays more dimensional...Jerome somebody? Graffiti Glitter I think it is called, but I haven't tried it so can't confirm.

Cool. I'm thinking of an idea that would include bodypaint and a whole lotta glitter, tat style like Kat does. But the glue over paint is tough to see, and for a picture, it doesn't need to be that permanent. I think I'm gonna mix me up some and see how it does. Thanks guys!

oohhohhhh, I just learned how to make some last night at the Columbia Jam: One scoop of plain aloe vera (no additives) and one scoop (actually slightly more than one scoop) of cosmetic glitter in a zip lock baggy. mix together well then using a rubber spatula, push all the mix into one corner. Then cut a small hole at the tip (better smaller then larger b/c Michelle said, you can cut a bigger hole but you cant cut a smaller one) and squeeze into your bottle (9 oz works best for me) and then cap it...Tah dah, you got your own 3-D Bling! Ask Michelle Heffner or Just Jenny for more info...I wonder if they can make a Youtube tutorial....Smile

Mixing your own bling comes in handy for sports using team colors, too.

Giving away jam secrets.....It was so fun making the gel, and of course all the mishaps we had with it. The measuring and the mixing, the splats everywhere, and the glitter that wasn't quite mixed enough and clogged up. Ivonne, you were great, and I thank you for the extra bag of gold that you gave me. I will always be making my own gel from now on, it is so much cheaper this way. The baggie system works great for mixing, and I just love the mylar cones to use as an applicator.

Shannon, thanks so much for the pin tip! I got and used my first bling gels this weekend and I never would have known to do this to keep them from clogging. Thanks for sharing so that I didn't have to learn the hard way!

Yep I have 1 tucked into the lid of my back glitter kit bag.

Plus I keep the just-used metal tips in a little lid of water so they don't dry up & clog and pop them on as I need them.

The mylar cones are great since the reason why "bling" is so pricey is the bottle, cap and metal tip. Has nothing to do with the glitter and gel. But how do you keep it from drying out?

You are too funny. They are making henna type cones and putting the gel in there. This works in lieu of the bottle, but how to keep it from drying out?

Carol T. told me that if you put it in a plastic zipper baggie and burp the air out, it will last.

Actually, that's what she told me about keeping extra "bling" when you snip the corner of the original baggie to put it into the bottle.

My guess is that it will work the same. Just kinda annoying at a gig.

Hey Painted Dragon I like this idea of the safety pin, that way you won't lose the tip.
