Confused about Sub Work???
I work jobs for a friend all the time. Her rate is $100 per hour and takes $25 for a deposit that she keeps. Ussually it's a birthday party and parents just pay cash for the remainder of the party to me and I keep that. Lately it has been businesses that I have been working for her and they are having her invoice the remainder and she cuts me a check afterwards. Now my pay is $75 per hour and she is taking $25 per hour for herself. Is this the correct way to have a sub work or am I losing money working for her.

Re: Confused about Sub Work???
If you have your own kit and everything and your own supplies then it's pretty decent. Keep in mind that not only does she do all the admin work like invoices but. she's also the one paying for business cards, advertisements, website fees etc. $25 is pretty reasonable as a fee.
I have a face painter working for me too, but i taught her everything she knows (which I paid to learn), and i supply her kit, as well as doing all of the admin, and advertising work and paying for that. Her pay is about $50 per hour which is pretty good and fair.
I talked to Melly about this a while ago, as she employs an entire fleet of princess's and other characters. They get paid the same rate, and she supplies everything, and they also have to sing and dance, and do lots of other stuff! lol
So yeah, if you are ridding another artists coat tails (success) then what she is taking is very fair if you have your own kit, etc.

Re: Confused about Sub Work???
I don't have a set dollar amount. I keep 20% which works out pretty fair for any type of gig.
