Hey ya'll! I'm about to order a tall chair finally! I've been saving up for it! And after obsessively reading everything I could get my hands on from this forum, I'm planning on making a booster seat as well to get small children a little closer to eye level. I'm 5'10 so I know I'll be needing that.

I'm pretty crafty and am always reading craft blogs and stuff and came across this:
http://www.prudentbaby.com/2010/01/modern-comfy-diy-booster-seat.html

It's a homemade and CA-UTE booster seat! It's made to be removable for washing too so you could even make a few themed covers if you wanted. I just thought I'd share b/c others might want to make one as well. I'll repost when ever I get around to it on my mile long to-do list. Mad Mad

Also, if you don't sew, you could definitely take the foam instructions then just use an adapted pillowcase or something... just to keep it simple. Laughing

That is a really good idea. Once I get more gigs lined up I will definitely have to make one as well. I look forward to seeing how yours turns out.

Great idea! I have a flower pillow I use, but it's a bit too small to really make a difference. Making one could be custom made for my directors chair and fill in the space at the back too! I'm 5' 10" too and my back is killing me today after two nights straight of 4 hour gigs. I've got another tomorrow. I keep squatting to paint on the little ones. I actually got down on my knees last night when painting a particularly small child that kept looking down.

Now I'm thinking of getting a table topper too, so my paints can be higher up as well Very Happy

I made a booster seat with some plywood, foam and fabric. It sits on the arm of my tall directors chair. It's like the ones barbers use when working on children. They sell those at beauty supply stores I presume. I will post a pic of my set up . I have a fold up small step stool I got from Bed Bath and Beyond. I strap these 3 things onto my fatmax w/ my menu board w/ bungee cords and I can make it in one trip. My only worry is that the kids aren't as secure w/ the added height. I no longer feel achy after a gig and I'm only 5'4''. I can't imagine being as tall as some of you. Oh, sometimes my step stool also acts as a chair if I need to sit to paint.

I like the booster idea but I let the kids climb up into my chair on their own and I'm not sure if they would be able to do that with the booster. I don't want to start lifting the kids into my chair. I'm 5'9" and I keep telling the kids to left the head up because I don't want to bend so much and hurt my back. I use a camping table - it rolls up into a bag that you hang on your shoulder http://www.amazon.com/Rio-Adventure-Aluminum-Roll-Up-Table/dp/B000AYF9PM (I got mine from Target). I put PVC pipe extensions on the legs to raise the table higher. Its easier for me to use and it keeps the kids hands out of my stuff (at least the smaller kids).
