body painting
My first body painting. Hulk.
Not very satisfied. I struggled with the arm muscles although I had done my research.
Looking for suggestions or tips.
TIA!
Re: body painting
Looks fine. Dont put down good quality work. You devalue yourself when you critique a nicely executed paint job.
This is amazing period.

Re: body painting
WOW!
All I saw were mistakes. It's like a curse where you cannot see any good in your work!
Thanks all for giving me my confidence back! Love you all!

Re: body painting
Truly wish I could have gotten together with you in Chattanooga!!!! What a cool city! I want to go back and explore.... I was there when I was in grade school and it has changed so much!
Re: body painting
Yes, I am sorry we couldn't get to meet! We had the closing of our new house that Friday and a festival on Saturday....and an exhausting Sunday moving our stuff.
Chattanooga has grown quite a bit lately....I am told. It's a beautiful city with a lot of places to explore. The fall colors are so beautiful right now! I think it's a quaint little city to raise my little one!

Re: body painting
manasi, your art is amazing! I demand you cure yourself from finding flaws!
I'll share this with you:when making monsters, like the hulk, beauty is symmetry so asymmetric is the way to go!
congrats on the new house!I've got lil ones myself

Re: body painting
Dear Joshi:
It is completely normal for you to keep noticing what is wrong with your own work.
Do not beat yourself up over your work.
You are criticizing your art.
You need to critique your work.
Different way of looking at your work.
Look at the strengths...opacity of coverage, graceful arching lines following the musculature, tendons and sinews, nice blending in the umbra of the shadows.
Look at the fabulousness upside down, so it is no longer your work. It is an art piece. Take it all in.
Now....
What can you do to make it stronger, better, more of what you feel is missing.
What are you searching for?
It is hard to see what is not there.
Once you can begin to critique your work, to search for the missing, your art will get even better.
Personally, I feel it is a damn fine piece of art work.
Happy Painting.

Re: body painting
Thanks Lisa! I think I over-analyze the details and loose sight of the work as a whole....if that makes sense. I think I'll do better on my second body painting...keeping everybody's suggestions in mind!
It took me 3 hours to do this. Includes upper torso and legs (thigh to feet).
Is this a good, average or slow speed?

Re: body painting
Dear Joshi:
Speed comes with practice.
Yes, that IS a good speed.
When I am doing a painting, and I feel that I am hesitant about the next step, or I feel overwhelmed about all that I have to do...
I turn away from my art and pick up a mirror and look at my work in the reflection. All of a sudden, the part I have to work on JUMPS out at me.
My first body paintings were as an assistant. My job was to make sure the model was happy, watered, fed, washroom breaks were scheduled. I took that experience forward with me. When the model gets a break, I get a break. I can see the next step, or think about the next step while the model is taking those mini-breaks.
Happy Painting!

Re: body painting
Thanks Lisa!
I am learning as I go! Your advice is very helpful indeed!
You are right...the next time someone asks to be a Hulk...I can do this much faster!
One thing I am proud of...I had quoted 3 hrs for this painting...and I finished 4 minutes to spare...
nikkili26...yes, I used kabuki brushes.

Re: body painting
I think you did a great job! I still panic but I was 'thrown to the wolves' quickly for my first bodypainting.....the FABAIC stage as an instructor bodypaint my FIRST YEAR! I cried twice!! BUT they used in in promo the next year so although I wanted to crawl away and die, I look back and still see the mistakes, but it's not so bad! I think it's common to be down on yourself at first but you did good kiddo!
