Least Toxic Brand of Paint

Hi!

I have used neon colored Tulip, which stains the skin so I'm guessing there's something there, Snazaroo, Wolfe and just ordered TAG and Diamond FX. Any studies done to show which has the least amount of chemicals? I've heard Snazaroo is very high in lead...anyone know?

I would really doubt that Snaz is high in lead since it is known as the safest paint, is FDA compliant and SNAZAROO is the only face paint that also holds a "child toy safety rating" which is a more stringent guideline. You can read more on their safety here: http://www.snazaroo.us/safety.htm

I think that it is important to stick with face paints that are FDA compliant because then you can be assured that the paints were truly intended for use on the face/skin and are less likely to cause a reaction.

Lead is in everything... so anything that is tested is going to show some levels of lead. Years of leaded gas, leaded paint, etc. means it is present in our environment.

If a face painting is reputable brand that meets FDA or EU requirements then it is as safe as any other make-up product.

I believe since you started with body pAINT before trying body MAKEUP, you are wrongly lumping tulip body pAINT with the more reputable and non toxic snazaroo makeup which is actually the safest of all! I use it on everybody, never once had an allergic reaction or incident.

Well, everything, including the air you breathe and the water you drink are made from chemicals. What you're asking are which have the fewest harmful chemicals.

Staining has nothing to do with toxicity. Reaction to a product has nothing to do with toxicity.
Blueberries stain. Some people are highly allergic to blueberries and some might even die if they ingested them. I have a good friend whose lips swell every time they touch a strawberry (but she can eat them). You'd be hard pressed to call blueberries or strawberries toxic.

Your original question is hard to answer. All of our products are probably safe. None of our products are probably toxic. Shannon said it best:

Some ingredients in our products are recognized by the FDA as being safe but other countries choose to ban them, for example, parabens - the preservative Snazarroo uses.

By current FDA standards, NONE of the FDA compliant facepaint products use ingredients which have been shown to cause harm IF they are used in a manner consistent with labeling.

None of our products are directly tested by the FDA on a regular basis - and they are not "approved" by the FDA. That's a common mistake people make. The color additives themselves are approved for use in very specific ways, but the product as a whole, is not.

The ingredients list is "compliant." That means all the ingredients have a safety data sheet on how they should be used, and the labeling is consistent with that. If an ingredient on that list didn't already have a safety data profile, the manufacturer would have to show they've done their own testing.

The products we use have to show they use compliant ingredients, but the responsibility is on the manufacturer or distributor for product safety - NOT the FDA. The FDA usually only inspects a product if there is a reason to suspect the manufacturer isn't being truthful about the labeling or people are reporting reactions.

There are some newer regulations where FDA inspectors may visit foreign food factories, but I don't know if that will apply to cosmetic factories.

Individual manufacturers may opt to do some independent tests if they wanted to, and they're probably all subject to some form of quality assurance every so often at the manufacturer level, but again, this isn't the FDA conducting or requiring the testing.

Toxins are posions or things taht react as poison. So no face painting makeup is toxic. While some person somewhere may have an allergic reaction to a face painting makeup - the makeup is not toxic.

We use makeup not paint. Saying we use paint on people hypes toxic concerns.

Use brands you know (many people are using even though they are top brands do not) meet FDA or EU standards.
