Henna that isn't so much...
I got the most interesting gig, as a henna artist.
I'm etching UGG boots at an event at a major department store.
Here's what I did for the TV spot they will be filming that morning. No word yet as to whether they will film me etching, or not.

Re: Henna that isn't so much...
are you using a wood burner? I have done the same thing to leather with a wood burner
Re: Henna that isn't so much...
LOL I am doing the same gig on November 9th here at home!! LOL AND we'll be using the same owl design they provided too! The pay is pretty decent for 4 hours work too! Did they provide you with practice Uggs??
Re: Henna that isn't so much...
Yay, Kim! Yes, these were sent to me early, but not really for practice. They are going to be used in a local morning show and/or commercial which will be taped earlier in the day, the same day of the event I'm doing.
I would have been on my own for practice, otherwise.
I went to Goodwill and bought a couple suede jackets to practice on.
I finally got the owl right by printing it out and tracing it a couple times with a sharpie. Then I just drew it a few more times.
Did you get a file with some monogram lettering? I just ended up opening a Word document and typing out the alphabet in upper case letters (several different fonts) and traced them, too.
I hope you have fun at your event! Hubby and I are doing it together. He's my "assistant".

Re: Henna that isn't so much...
Well, I did this gig yesterday, and had so much fun!!
I was on the morning show first, to promote the event, where I etched a shoe live. Here's a link: (click on Saturday Daybreak, then on the UGG link.)

Then the event was amazing. The store manager came and told me it was already better, after two hours, than the entire event they did the year before, when they bedazzled them. He wanted to know if I'd come back, and I told him to contact the talent agency to set it up and I'd love to!
Goodness, what a great gig!

You rocked that TV spot, Diane!!!! Fantastic job!
What a wonderful gig opportunity - hopefully those darn UGGS will still be in style next year for you to do it again.

Re: Henna that isn't so much...
I personally do not like Uggs, but you just made them a little bit better in my book
Re: Henna that isn't so much...
Did my Ugg gig today and it was SO MUCH fun! I wanted to buy a pair for myself by the time I was done!! LOL No fun TV spot for us, but they were just loving us and the reps said that ours was the best on their run so far! Hope we get to do it again next year! here are some shots of some of my efforts today! Missed the purple Uggs, the butterflies were cute.... and the last one is the dreaded 'My cat, here is his picture' request. The store owner later came up and said that she was happy I didn't turn the woman down because she was only going to buy if she could have the cat! It wasn't fabulous, but she was over the moon so 'win' I guess! LOL
Off to FPBA!!! See you all soon!!!!

Re: Henna that isn't so much...
I never would have attempted that cat. I'm not an actual artist, so I don't do realistic stuff. But you pulled it off amazingly well.
That pair with the owls looks like it is a used pair. Was it? I had a lot of people ask if I could do their boots they already owned, but we just told them I was only designing boots they bought from Dillard's that day.
And that shading! Kim, that's just amazing! I am in awe.

Re: Henna that isn't so much...
They were used, but they were staff boots so it was ok....customers had to purchase boots. And thank you for the lovely compliments! I blush!! Re: Henna that isn't so much...
Omg, totally gonna do this to my gigs.....these things are hideously ugly, but so comfy and warm.....the only boot warmer is my bigger, chunkier snow boots.
would love to jazz my pair up.
how did you get these? Online or local agency?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'get these'. You mean how do you land the gig??
