Back-to-back gigs?
Hi, guys!
I've just gotten two inquiries from my website, asking my availability for the same day. If the times aren't overlapping, I might be able to make it work.
But then that got me thinking....I might not have time to go home in between to wash my brushes and sponges thoroughly.
What's the proper etiquette for back-to-back gigs?
Thanks in advance for your responses!

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
There are a number of threads on cleaning brushes and sponges. Here is a great way to search for something specific. In a google search window type: site:facepaintforum.com brush cleaning
You'll get a bunch of results. Choose one like this and check it out:

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
I give myself at least an extra 30min on top of driving time to stop at home..but you could also as if you could use their sink to rinse your brushes, I've never been told no when I've asked..then dip em in alcohol..
Re: Back-to-back gigs?
How about investing in a double set of brushes and sponges? It would make life much easier, and you will always have need for them.

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
Have enough brushes and sponges for each gig to have its own stuff. Easy peasy.
Re: Back-to-back gigs?
Many times I'm driving an hour or more to a gig, then another hour to the next. There is no time to go home.
Re: Back-to-back gigs?
That's a deceptively simple solution. I was over thinking it for sure.

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
I clean and sanitize my brushes as I go, so there is no big clean up required at the end of a gig.
I do pull my kit apart after a big gig.
Damned glitter gets everywhere !

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
i'm not a veteran, but I definitely plan ahead when I know I'm double booked-I have 3 ziplock baggies-I use one for old sponges at the first party, and at the end of the party, I put all the used brushes into another baggie. i spray and wipe down all of my cakes and cases, and ask to use the bathroom....where i will carefully wash my hands and my water container with a little square of magic eraser....takes literally less than a minute.
Then, at the next party, i do it again-new ziplock baggie for those sponges, and at the end, i put the brushes in the bag.
at home, i clean then.
To be fair, I have multiples of my favourite brushes-several round #6, #4, several 3/4" flats and 1/4" flats, several spotters for fine details and spots.
Usually I will use them with reckless abandon, choosing and selecting whatever I see fit.but when I'm double booked, I get more creative-try to only use a certain amount of my brushes and rotate....i'll only add a new brush to the rotation if the one I'm using is not airdried fully yet from the alcohol i use to sanitize.

Re: Back-to-back gigs?
I pack two wallets a big tag one - they are as big as the laptop cases, and one for dirty's, or retires but I also have isoprople alcohol with me and a small bar of soap (hotel room size) as some brushes I do only have one of but don't often use. If I have used them I clean those few properly and put them back in the big one. I don't often ever have a problem though as I have a lot of brushes.
I also have a second lided bucket for dirty sponges as I like to do the keep them wet thing and it just looks better to keep the other pile in a bucket in the car.
For the brush basin I take a sponge use that soap I have and quickly the thing dumping water into the bucket of dirty sponges. I also have another water bottle in the car.
If I have time I do more but that's pretty much the rush job version.
