If I had my painting being turned into a calendar I'd be excited and want to share it too...even if it was a girly calendar & I only painted a postage stamp-sized area on each naked girl, I'd want to share it! I don't understand why anybody would be so hostile over this, some of the comments are almost troll-like - I hope not, but some people do seem to like to fan the flames...

Monna, thank you so much! It's only my second one, and I basically ran around beaming at everyone throughout my apartment block 'cause I was so proud, lol. You made my evening!

Coral, exactly! Imagine people posting like this on newbie pictures:

Ya'll need to take a deep breath and R E L A X. If you are getting offended or think I am trolling then you are far to emotionally invested in this conversation.

The pictures are FUNNY. If you don't think a raptor ridding a shark is funny, or a zebra on a motorcycle is funny then you are taking this conversation FAR too seriously.

Why I don't appreciate this calender (in its extremely photoshopped form) because we are showing off someone's ability to work a program, not the users ability to paint a body. I mean, for heaven's sake, it doesn't even LOOK like paint.

Is the world going to end because I am not a fan? Nope.
Is she going to get booked for less jobs because little ol' me didn't appreciate nudity + more photoshop than actual painting? Nope

In the end, you SHOULD be able to give an opinion (unless this is soviet facepaintforum) so I stand by my harmless and humorous statements

I find it difficult to react because I'm having trouble finding the right words in english.

I'm a bit overwhelmed by the reactions.... I only said for ME a line was crossed, not suggested the pictures should be taken down or critisizing Seekorka's work, which is very good!

In return there are things posted like FE (!!!! Just examples, I'm not totally upset about it!) "It's art and don't we just all have to love that?" "we all have boobies (wished I could confirm that, but the boobies are not the reason the line was crossed for me. That was not wearing pants and way to much nudity in relation to the painting in MY opinion) so why so upset over these ones?"

I just told you how I was thinking and feeling about it, didn't ask to be judged about it....
Now it feels as if I live in a country with nudity all over, don't like or not able to appreciate art, and feel uncomfortable about some boobies.

Could we please tell each other how we think about this, without asssuming to understand why the person's feeling that way?! If you don't understand, why my line was crossed, please ask me, don't tell me what it is, without knowing!
We al appreciate each other for being here, and we're all different, let's all learn from that, not trying to be and feel all the same.

Would be boring wouldn't it... What a Face

Again: my english's not good enough to express exactly what I want to say about this.
I don't feel bad personally about everything said, just wondering why just listening to each other's so difficult sometimes!

Lizzie,

I didn't have any problem with your opinion that it was too much nudity for you. I don't know what life in the Netherlands is like, but in the US, we DO have nudity all over. Women in tiny bikinis sell everything from hamburgers to cars to chewing gum. To me, it's silly to say that an inch of fabric here or a nipple there changes the fact that these women are using their unclothed bodies to sell unrelated items. But that's my opinion.

What I had a problem with was the nastiness and judgment of other people. I think if most of us were honest, we'd be very excited to do an assignment like Seekorka's. It's easy to say "I'd never do THAT kind of work" when no one is offering it to you. And while constructive opinions of someone's work are fine, it shouldn't ever be ok to be mean or hateful. I am not wanting to post my work here because I don't want to be made fun of. Nobody does. It's NOT funny. I'd rather deal with a Facebook group where I know I can get support. And if enough people think like me, it hurts this board and Metina's shop. I hope we can all agree that's a bad thing.

I agree Jenny, I don't think the ripping apart of her work was necessary. I said I was uncomfortable with the images simply because I am a very modest person and don't care much for the nudity, to me it is different when the skin is painted rather than bare. I to live in the US but I wish I didn't live in a time where nudity is posted everywhere we look. I agree that if this were my work no matter how uncomfortable I would have been with the lack of paint and how the client altered (photoshopped, I understand this wasn't Seekorka's idea) it I would have still shared it because it is exciting! I think, however, I would have added some censors across the areas that really don't need to be shown here...

P.S. I wish you would join us in the Newbie show and tell section Jenny, it is a great place to share with fellow new to painting artists. Hope we can someday meet up. Smile

Bodypainting IT Calendar :) (photos for adult) - Page 3 Empty Re: Bodypainting IT Calendar :) (photos for adult)

Post by Kammy Thu Feb 21, 2013 3:56 pm

Coming into this discussion late.

I'm European, so perhaps my views are somewhat coloured by that. I don't mind nudity at all. I don't see it as inherently sexual, because I think that bodies are just bodies, and only the body's owner - nobody else, ever - has the right to declare when his/her body is or is not sexual in context. If a woman wishes to wear less or more clothing than me, that's just fine by me and doesn't bother me in the slightest.* The body painting is great - very, very crisp and beautifully detailed.

That said:

It annoys me that these photos are so evidently intended to be provocative by the IT firm that commissioned them. This is NO offence to Helena who I think did a wonderful job within the guidelines of the project, but her client evidently didn't wish much skin to be covered, and wished the images to be the standard "sexualised woman posing for the titillation of the viewer" type. The poses, the small amount of (very well-done) body paint coverage, the whole idea all says to me "Yeah, we want to see a naked woman posing for our (mostly male in IT) pleasure, but we also want to pretend we're not exploitative or sexist, so we'll put some beautiful paint on a small area and then that'll be OK, right?"

This may just be me. I have whole books of nude images in my home (they are not pornographic in the slightest, I strongly dislike porn), but to me this calendar is just more of the same-old-same-old woman-exploiting stuff. The naked bodies don't offend me. The general style just makes me exasperated.

My humble opinion, as always. I'm not necessarily in the right. Smile

I would like to thank all of you for reminding me a quote really close to my heart i had forgotten and had to reaserch so that it would help me now and in the future.
For all that can't understand why we are continuing this conversation to realize what is the purpose of dialogue.
"Dialogue starts from the courageous willingness to know and to be known by others. It is the painstaking and persistent effort to remove all obstacles that obscure our common humanity. Genuine dialogue is a ceaseless and profund spiritual exertion that seeks to effect a fundamental human transformation in both ourselves and others. Dialogue challanges us to confront and transform the destructive impulses inherent in human life. I earnestly believe that the energy generated by this courageous effort can break the chains of resignation and apathy that bind the human heart, unleashing renewed confidence and vision for the future. Daisaku Ikeda"
I would like to add something for those that are afraid to post their own work because of what people reaction might be. We all started and some of us still are in the process of practising to become a better or faster painter, i truly believe we know not to be judgmental when looking at somebody's work and just see the best in what is presented to us. Please let's open our heart and see that in this case what we see could affect people in different way, no offense to the artist meant, can we just appreciate that the composition in this case is not what is normally presented in any other thread?
There is nothing wrong i think, we just have to be open to different opinion. Maybe it is a good idea to have a separate thread for this particular paint so that people that do not agree and aren't interested won't bother opening these files.
One thing i am totally convinced no matter how much controversy this thread has created, this forum is more then just a forum i feel it is like a family. As such sometimes we argue and then we let go in the end we are all there for one another because what really bind us is the love we have for this art!
