Post by Mary Gonzalez Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:36 pm

Hi everyone, I'm Mary Smile
Actually, I'm not sure if I can even call myself a newbie considering I haven't even really started yet (unless you count doing cat make up with my liquid eyeliner on my sisters for Halloween)! But I just ordered my first paint palette, glitter, stick-on jewels, and convinced my 6 year old twin sisters into letting me practice on them. What's better for two little girls than getting free face painting, right?

My cousin does face painting and I thought it'd be interesting to give it a try, so I suppose she's really what inspired me to try.
My current passions are cake decorating (I love making gum-paste/fondant flowers and figurines for my cakes :3) and dance, but I'm pretty sure I'll become just as addicted to face painting after a while haha

Thank you all! Smile

I really can't wait to get started. I ordered my Diamond FX paint (if it's going on my sisters' face, I'm NOT going for the cheap stuff) from JestPaint last week, but apparently the people are out of town until about the 8th.
Looks like I'm going to be waiting a while haha

Hi Mary! It's great that you're starting off with enthusiasm and good paint. That will endear you to a lot of folks around here.

One of the least known, but best, resources on this board is the Monthly Challenges category. Many (if not all) of them are step by step photo montages or videos. Several members have YouTube videos on techniques -- moderator Denise Cold (Painted Party) covers a lot of basics.

Welcome!

Mary, Did you check out the Forum Face Paint Shop?
I'm just asking because I didn't realize it was there when I first joined the forum scratch ...It is right up there at the top of the page (just below the Valentine challenge banner) and says "Face Paint Forum Shop" in a rainbowy box.
Metina, that runs this forum, has the nicest shop for paints there AND her shipping is INCREDIBLE!!! you get it sooooooo very fast. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet.

Thank you everyone Smile

Valerie, I actually didn't notice the shop until after I already bought my things at Jest Paint. I think I'll be buying sponges and glitter from the forum shop though.

And Paola, I'm still waiting to get even the e-mail notification of the shipment :/ (if they even do that). My cousin told me about Silly Farm, but I decided to check on Google and came across Jestpaint. That's also how I found this forum xD

Oh dear, I just realized I never looked back in this thread Laughing

yes Paola, I ended up getting my paint about two weeks after I made this thread and I started painting right away. My sisters loved it, but I think they're starting to get sick of me trying to paint them every other day :lo:

Hello All!

My name is Shamara. I haven't been face painting for very long but I really enjoy it. Never thought of actually using it to make money but people keep telling me that I should do it as a side business. I was doing a search this morning, checking typical pricing for parties etc and came across this forum. This is soo freaking awesome. Giving a special shout out to the creator of this site.. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Forum. shamara622!
Where are you from?
If you go into your Profile, and post you location, it makes it easier to network with other painters in your area, split shipping costs on orders, and if one person orders one color, and the other person orders another color and you split them and swap the halves you will have two colors for the price of one. This Forum is funded by the FacePaintForumShop (in the colorful rectangle in the header bar at the top of this column). The prices are competitive with other suppliers, and the shipping is FAST!
Happy Painting!

Paola,
Thank you for all the advice seen here. It is a bit intimidating when you're inexperienced.
I recently made what I'll deem, my first real face painter's purchase, from Silly Farm, based on some comments in the forum. Sure I've purchased other products here & there in the past, but nothing from an actual company strictly for body art only. So excited to receive!

Still have a ton to learn about this forum, but will definitely try the FP Forum Shop first, for more supplies.

Sending smiles!
Val.
