100 kids = how much paint?
I just volunteered to do a Christmas party with 100 kids. The organizer has volunteered to pay for the paint. It'll be masks and eye designs, mostly. So how much paint is that? I was thinking maybe 12 pots, like a big palette?
Thanks for your help!

Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
I would suggest 1 large white, regular 1 each of the 6-7main colors, 2 rainbow cakes 2 one strokes, of course you could paint 100 kids with much less, but thats a good start, and variety, IMHO
Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
Agreed...it's a good opportunity to build your pallette. If you don't have/want metallics in Christmas colors, now is the opportunity!
Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
I can paint approximately 20 children per hour. I have been clocked at 27 people per hour when I had a line manager getting children to decide before they got into my chair, and they were helped into and out of the chair by the line manager. My line manager also did the glittering on the children by the mirror that they had to get out of my chair to look at themselves.
I used one sponge per color/child. I have not reused any sponges at any event. (I have over 500 sponges, and over 90 brushes).
The basic paints: Wolfe white, pearl black doesn't stain as much as the Wolfe black, then yellow, orange, red, pink, blue, green, purple. You can mix your own brown with yellow/blue/red. You can double and triple load your sponge to create rainbow colors.
You need a lotta sponges.
I am hoping you have more than yourself painting. And, I trust that the other volunteer face painters are using FDA compliant face paints and cosmetic glitter.
Happy Painting

Adult Diapers
These are 2 ways you can go about this. The first way you will have a CHANCE of getting return business. The second you won't generally get called for parties
Either way, know that 100g of paint will be more than enough to paint the kiddos.

FIRST WAY!!!!
purchase whatever you are missing from your kit and paint as though there was no line.
Do you know what I mean by that?
There is going to be a line NO MATTER HOW FAST YOU PAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You paint fast? great. More people will get in line because the line moves fast. You paint slow? That's ok too. People will leave the line because it takes too long.
EITHER WAY people will complain about the line (mostly black people ((I am not hating, it is the truth!!))((( and it isn't racist because I am brown haha) ))
Now lay on the sugar baby! Paint each kid like they were a birthday party guest and IGNORE THE LINE (which is so hard to do because it is long and impatient). Sugar up the kiddo, sugar up the Parents and paint as quickly as you would at a party with the same flare, designs, glitter gems, gels blah blah blah. Offer them a card as they leave (or the line manager can) and BAM you might actually get a call back from it.
Not as many people will be painted.... but the ones that are? WOW! they will LOVE it! Besides, if you are painting with splits you are probably already faster and better than those "acrylic face painters"

SECOND WAY!!!!!!!!!!!
For these free for all (free to the customer) speed painting events I usually make a special board.
For example, for the 4th of July I made a large RED-WHITE-BLUE split cake and a 1inch one stroke of the same colors.
Then I made up 8 designs using ONLY those colors. I printed out 3 design boards and laminated them and they floated out in the lines.
Each design took max 1 min to paint.
Think one stroke stuff... flowers, masks, snakes and no on...
I made the design board using a photo program that took 9 individual pictures (one of the being my business card) and turned them into a page of 9 wallet sized pictures. Print, laminate, voila.
Me and a friend painted for 4 hours. It was about 2 mins a per person, and 2 people painting.
I bought 3 50g splits (red white and blue)
Made 2 large split cakes and 2 one stroke containers.
and I had an extra cake of red white and blue in my kit that I took just in case.
Cakes of paint really go along way!!! I am going to say we painted at LEAST 200 people (low balling) and we still had a LITTLE paint left (Maybe 10 more people) and I didn't even use the emergency cake.

Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
There are going to be about 100 kids there, but I don't think all 100 will go for FP. They range from toddlers to teens, all children with a parent in prison. They're part of a ministry called New Hope, which provides summer camp, after school programs, and counseling.
I'm going to stock up on lick n stick glittery tattoos, for the sniffly and scared and stranded in line. I'll have a line manager (my husband), but no other help. I'm working on very fast mask/eye designs. And I'll just do my best.
I so appreciate the advice you guys give. I'd love to be able to paint next to each of you. Also, I got a job offer today! It's a couple hours at a holiday party, and she asked me what my rate was. I have no idea, I've only done this for free!

Jenny-
Base your rate on what others are doing in your area. Don't under value yourself. 'kay?

Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
In Oklahoma City, I know at least one of the bigger face painters starts at $125 (which I think is for birthday parties), and I was told by one of my clients that another one charges $150 for a 2 hour party. I charge $100 for a 2 hour party and $60 an hour after that (which might not seem like a lot for some of the more experienced painters here, but it's what I'm comfortable charging for my experience).

I also would need 5 hours.
No board - they can be tigers or butterflies.
And no diapers... I can hold it longer than that!

Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
Shadnee, thanks for the info. I have not been able to get info on other people's prices here, so I was really at a loss. I think I'm going to ask for $50 an hour (since I'm very new and it's her gig), but I'll say I'm flexible. All she can say is no.

Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
and don't forget a tip jar! I've found people are very generous with tips when they don't have to pay for the face painting!!!!
Re: 100 kids = how much paint?
Dont say your flexible. $50 an hour sounds WAY cheaper than most. You need to say that $50 with conviction and BELIEVE you are worth it. Never ever ever plant seeds of doubt in a customers head before a gig!! you gota believe in yourself to sell youself, kapishe?!
