Too good to be true?!!? Empty Too good to be true?!!?

Post by Face Painting by Jessica Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:23 pm

I just got off the phone with a very popular farm in my area. They host wagon rides, corn mazes, pony rides, BBQs daily, and amazing foods not to mention pumpkin picking is coming up.

I asked if they would be interested in a face painter to help drive sales. The owner wasn't exactly enthusiastic (he's an older man) but he said sure! Basically I'm going to meet with him soon to scope out the farm for the best place to set up (I choose!). He even offered to let me use their Farmers Market canopy! I make my own hours and just show up if I have nothing to do on a Saturday/Sunday. I offered to give 10% of net profits and he seemed fine with it.

It's weird because there's no real structure to it. I kinda like that but am I missing something? Is it too good to be true?

there is a pumpkin patch here that allows much the same for us... it certainly won't hurt them, so why not?

I have a similar deal here, I start in a week bounce cheers! I give 20% of profits (MAKE SURE YOU TAKE YOUR % OUT OF _PROFITS_ AND NOT WHATEVER IS IN THE CASH BOX!!! You gotta pay for that paint, girl!)
Over 6 weeks/6 days a week I made quite a bit of moolah at it last year...and had such a long line on Saturdays! This year I'll be doing glitter tattoos too (with my sister helping out) so I'm hoping to make even more Cool.

nice! Work it for what it is worth!! Choose the best place you can and get to work! I am totally jealous! I haven't heard of anything like that in my area, but I am keeping my eyes/ears open!

I have a Very popular coat maze just a few miles from me and never thought of painting there! Did you plan out your proposal first, or just went on down to see what was what ( PPF vs hire, %, days, what ever..) just curious how it came about.
And congrats, sounds like fun!

I sent a brief email through the contact us form on their site basically explaining how face painting will help drive sales. He was just like, "Would we get a cut out of it?"

I proposed 10% of net profits and he was like, "Sounds like a deal to me."

I've very excited, no commitment, no hassle.

Nice! Im going to buck up, find the courage, and go on down to my local place!
My thought is that if it works out, in the future, my name could be also listed in advertising for the farm...

Are these venues very profitable? If you could do a 2 hour birthday party vs a day at the pumpkin patch what would you choose?

I paint at a corn maze here (you may have seen it on ESPN- it;s of Peyton Manning) Anyway, the guy who owns it is so welcoming and I made great money last year.

how profitable it is would depend on whether or not they have anything else going on there... hayrides? haunted house? etc... otherwise it's going to be a trickle of people and you may find that you have to spend too much time there to make any money.

My local pumpkin farm pays me to be there (12-5) and I charge the the attendees $5 per face, they are great people to work with and have added more days this year and a evening when a church has rented the farm for a Harvest Festival dinner.
They are super nice and accommodating, give my kids pumpkins and I do their kids birthdays for free but its not a big deal, under 15 kids.

Can't wait till October business is picking up again. YAY!!

My gig is just simple ppf- the owner is great to work with, very laid back. I am going to rig up some lighting this year, so I can paint later at night, during the haunted maze.
