Re: wiggly two and 3 yr olds
I'm not sure if it's a sensitivity thing or what.
A girl today didn't start to water until a couple minutes after she left my chair. Her friend escorted her back over to me... "Excuse me. Her eye is all watery." I looked at her face... it was a princess tiara design... no paint anywhere near her eyes.
She told me it was her allergies... bless her heart, she was only 6 or 7...

For every party or event booked you are going to get your share of at least one or a combination of all of the following:
Constant flinchers
And eye waterers
And face scrunchers
And leg swingers
And just-gotta-scratch-at-everythingers
And looky-all-arounders
And can't-seem-to-stop-it-chatterers
And then there are the little angels who just sit there so still that you think you should maybe place the mirror under their nose to make sure they are still breathing
Well said Miss Ronnie.
And Denise I so agree with you with the little whose mum gave you a hard time.
I had a really bad experience with a mum once who insisted I paint her baby (about 9 months old), nearly ended me. I shall never forget it, it was really disturbing and wished I had reported her to child welfare.
Now I am big enough to say "NO, NEXT PLEASE"

Yesterday was fabulous. I did have one little guy who was nearly bent backwards but not cause he didn't want painted he just took my instructions to literally "ok sweetie lean back a little for me?". Well he did lean back just couldn't get him to reel it back in LOL. I just worked with it.

there's a line that Marcela uses, "I'll ask the baby if she wants to be painted... (baby is crying)... she says no."

Don't paint children three and under.
Simples.
Shannon, if we could all live by your rules the whole world would be simples......and I would heart it.

I hand them a clean paint brush to hold, so that they have something keep their attention...
Re: wiggly two and 3 yr olds
If I head in for the painting and the kid twists away or looks scared, I always firmly suggest I paint on their arm instead. Usually they are much calmer if they can see what is happening. If they still seem hesitant I will paint on myself or their mom, then point to their arm and say "Is it okay if I paint here now?" and wait for their approval. Of course, crying is an automatic stop. If it's an older kid who wiggles a lot, I keep saying "Okay, Wiggle Worm, you have to stay still for me or this won't come out looking very good!"
