Difference between one stroke and split cakes?
I am very new to face painting and am amazed by the products available! I have been considering getting set up with the tag one stroke kit but then realised they were different to the split cakes. Can someone tell me what the difference is between them? what is the best way to use each of them? Is one better or used more than the other? and also what to avoid using each for? any help greatly appreciated Thanks!

Type in "split" in the search and you'll have a ton of reading to do. The "Frequently Asked Questions" is an excellent area to browse throught for new facepainters as well.

Re: Difference between one stroke and split cakes?
A split cake is a full cake that has multiple colors. Obviously, you know what the TAG one stroke cakes are.
I love the few one strokes I have, but I don't feel the need to buy more. (today...)
Have a couple split cakes on hand. A neon rainbow is a good one to have, as is a pearl rainbow.
The split cakes are best used as base colors, applied with a sponge, while the one-strokes work great with a brush. (except the TAG neon rainbow, which I have found goes on better with a sponge, like so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErJJmY8WSQY
Denise Cold has a great tutorial on using the one-strokes here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiNN7qmTI9k

Thankyou, the youtube clips have been especially helpful! I have been looking all over the forum but there is so much information to filter through! I could spend all day here
Re: Difference between one stroke and split cakes?
Just for clarification.. There isn't really a difference to split cakes and on stroke cakes other than the tool used to apply it?
The cake itself is pretty much the same, other than split colours might be wider?
Or am i missing something in the piles of stuff i am reading

I think the paint in the cakes is the same, just the size and shape of the container makes a difference in your method of applying it. Both are good with daubers. The larger split cakes are easy with a sponge as a base, and you can also use a large flat brush to pick up only a few of the colours to paint on in a one-stroke style.

Re: Difference between one stroke and split cakes?
One stroke is the smaller cake with which you use a brush and pick up all the colours in the cake and create a design with just one stroke. Split cake is in a larger container, this can be two colours used with a sponge to create blended base work and/ or up to six colours to create more colourful base work where you use other colours for line and detail work to create a design. The split cake also can be used for one stroke designs, by using a flat brush and picking up some of the colours you want to use for your one stroke design.
