Circuit Silhouette are They Worth It?

I've wanted either a Circuit or a Silhouette for a while. Mother's Day & my Birthday are on the horizon & I was thinking maybe, just maybe..... Anyway, who has them? Who actually uses theirs? Is it just another high cost gizmo that will collect dust next to Sally the body-less head?

I'm also thinking of playing the, "It can be used for loads of stuff in your classroom" card since my hubby is a 3rd grade teacher

I have a cricut and loads of cartridges I used to use for scrapbooking, now I never even thought of using it for face painting. An idea but really a bit of work and time consuming. Unless you know exactly what you want to do with it.

For the classroom does make it multi purpose and he would probably use it more.

What were you planning on using it for?

Didn't I see a thread re: stencils for glitter tatts made on one of these? There was mention of finding things on the internet & printing on plastic for stencils, then cutting out w/???exacto knife???

If you spend more than $250 dollars in stencils at year it worths to get it. DON'T get a cricut, get the Silhouette, you don't need to get an extra program to cut, it will cut any jpg image if you clean in black and white, it is so good to have the freedom of make your own stencils, and you can cut some BAM stencils too. And the possibilities for your husband are unlimited.

Yes, I was thinking stencils for glitter tattoos, etc. I was also thinking signage for events, my tent, etc. Plus my hubby would luv it

Don't get the cricut you can't do any ANYTHING custom. Get the Silhouette.

Check craigslist and yardsales and stuff.
Sophie (geekophile) got hers at a yard sale for $25.
And yes, you CAN do everything custom, anything you want with a cricut. One of my cricut-owning friends makes stuff for me all the time. Custom. All I have to do is email her an image or sketch.

Then they must have gotten the SCAL or MTC software before the upgrade. They've been upgraded to not work with the cricut any more.

yea pretty much. LOL. And if we were using the software, we weren't buying cartridges.
