I do white outlines a lot on little girls... pink with white, blue with white.... it is delicate and pretty.

Re: I hate it when...
OH I have seen white outlines. That's a good reminder. I do like the way it looks!
Re: I hate it when...
One thing I hate: people standing next to me and smoking, so both me and the child gets all the smoke. Also outside! Most are really sweet about moving when I ask. But sometimes they stand so long away I can not discreet ask then
Re: I hate it when...
I use primarily white on my butterflies, but things like lady bugs, uh...spiders...
Re: I hate it when...
LoneWolf, I hate smoke too...the secret is to act apologetic and claim you are severely allergic. It's the only thing that works sometimes.
Re: I hate it when...
I work at a print shop, and I hate it when customers want something printed (A simple business card) and then is just ridiculous about editing it. I understand customers want their business cards to be perfect, and I'm always more than happy to work with them to create a product they'll be happy with- but this woman was overboard. Her office was right across the street from the print shop where I work, so she could have just walked over and discussed the card.. but instead she kept calling and asking me to fax over proofs, so she could call me or fax me back to tell me 'one more small thing' to change, and this happened so many times I lost count- it was to the extent of, "Can you move that number over just a quarter of a centimeter? Can you scoot that logo up just a eensy weensy bit? Can you make the font maybe 1/4 a size larger? Oh, can you bring the logo back down and see how it looks now? Can you undo what you just did and redo what you did the 5th time I called you?" And this stuff is ok to a certain extent, but I had a load of work to do and it took 3 days to get the cards right. Then, when they were ONE DAY later coming in than she expected, she pitched a fit and accused me of all kinds of things... ignoring her phone calls, not answering her messages, telling lies, trying to get her in trouble with her boss... only then did she actually come over to my office, and that was to start yelling at me. O_O
I love my job, but sometimes... egads! People!

Re: I hate it when...
I hate it when adults curse around children or talk about insanely inappropriate things. Like the mothers who curse out their 3 year old very loudly, or someone sitting next to a child on the bus using the f-bomb every 3 words (the words in between split amongst other 4-letter words).
I hate it when parents let their children run absolutely wild. Like to the extreme. As in, when I was a nanny this 5 year old would regularly drop the fbomb to me, his parents, or anyone else, he'd color on floors and walls, listened to only rap, and his parents would not discipline him AND undermined my own efforts to do so. I really hated it when he threw a comb at my face for asking him to go to bed (over an hours after bedtime). And I hated it EVEN MORE when I thought he was finally asleep, and came back 15 minutes later to find his light on and him peeing in a box in the middle of the floor. Yeah and I didn't enjoy the fact that when I told his mom she half-heartedly said "Oh M____, you don't pee in a box" and proceeded to give him a treat that he was whining for.
I really loved it when I quit and found a new job.

THAT is really scary. This type of child rearing is a lot more common than when I was growing up. Things have changed a lot.

Oh yeah...this same child, when I said "Hi" to a neighbor, proceeded to say very loudly "Don't talk to her! She's Chinese." WHERE could he have picked that up?
I should've considered myself warned about the craziness when I learned they fired the previous nanny because she was "too fat" (mind you this girl was maybe SLIGHTLY overweight, but NOT fat, and was very healthy looking. Grrr.

Seriously! I'm only 24, and when I was growing up, even "fart" was a 4-letter forbidden word in my house...
Re: I hate it when...
I can only imagine you are a better person for it. I really wonder what kids like that will be like as adults. That poor kid will probably end up in Behavior Disordered classes in school. I blame the parents.

actually as an education major, I can tell you that there is a good chance that this child will remain in normal classes due to inclusion laws. If the child is overtly disruptive, then his behavior will not be blamed on his parents, but instead on his intellectual disabilities and he will be labeled with a learning disability. That's just the way it is.
I freak out a little every time that I think about being a teacher next fall! I hope that my class isn't 40% inclusion like my friends first class after she graduated! She was asking for IEP's left and right! *sigh*

Ooohhh, a venting thread.
I hate it when people grab my mirror and show a child their face before I am done with it. That is like my #1 pet peeve! It's supposed to be a surprise, dang it!

agreed! It takes away my fav part of the WHOLE THING!!! I mean.. yea I love painting, but man, that smile is one of the best parts... or when the kid gets into the face and starts acting like what they are painted as... that's the BEST!
Re: I hate it when...
Yikes... all these "I hate it whens"..... is everyone talking about facepainting??? It sounds very familiar to my years in the public school system!! I guess in facepainting, you only have to deal with the bad ones for about 5 minutes not a whole year!!

I'd be a very lonely person if that child was around me!! Absolutely ridiculous.
I hate when people give sneak peeks with my mirror, too. Gah.
Re: I hate it when...
Or take your mirror away to keep letting their 'little darling' see themselves. I think my mirror needs an alarm for when it gets taken too far away. I try puting up another one but they were fighting over who got to look in it and the parents came over to pinch my big one anyway!

Re: I hate it when...
Ditto times a million about the mirror thing. Not only is the "best" part showing the child when everything's complete, but showing them in the middle is just asking for trouble. WE all know that painting looks a lot like crap before you're finished with it, but will then look fabulous once you're done - all kids see if you show them in the middle is the blob of colors, and it take a LOT to convince them that it will look great if they just still still for another couple of minutes.
Kids kept taking my "forever" mirror at the last birthday party I went to and showing the person in the chair. Even after I'd politely asked them not to a million times because it was a surprise (methinks these were the type of children who didn't hear "no" very often, if ever). I finally had to put on my "mean" face painter hat and tell them I was going to take away the mirror and they wouldn't get painted if they kept doing it.

Re: I hate it when...
I spent some time working in the child welfare system with BD kids right after I graduated from college. I know the parents aren't blamed by the system, but I personally hold them accountable for raising a child with no attempts at discipline.
Pet peeve - anyone helping themselves to anything on my table without asking permission. Criss had a good response to that... "Oh... would you like to use one of my wipes?" What are some other good responses?

Re: I hate it when...
I hate it when the KID himself is a KNOW IT ALL and reaches UNDER my covered event table and takes out all my face painting books while I have a child in my chair that I am BUSY PAINTING. And starts rummaging through all my stuff. And the parent JUST STANDS THERE and does nothing when I say, "Those were brought for my reference only".
My mom brought me up to "just look - do not touch - and if you do touch your probably gonna get a butt whoppin'". These kids these days are out of control! The parents just STAND THERE AND DO NOTHING!
Since I have purchased construction marking tape to rope off my tent but, SHEESH! The NERVE!
And yeah, I hate people grabbing my mirror too!
And people not watching their kids who come over and get in my palette while I'm painting!
OH I LOVE THE VENT THREAD!

Re: I hate it when...
I have "forever mirrors" - BTW that is a great term for them! Attached to my table top display unit with velcro - locker mirrors - three of them at different heights so three kids can look at the same time... works great to get them out of the chair as I say - you can look some more over there - and they can't be removed.
I get annoyed with kids who can't just wait their turn in line, but have to come up and watch what I am doing... VERY closely. Had on small boy who, for about an hour, would not go away...He was STANDING ON MY FOOT, getting between me and the face I was painting!!!!!!! I kept asking him to back away, get off me foot, get out of my space but he was oblivous and his mother was useless. He wasn't been bratty, or touching... just had to watch VERY CLOSELY.

Re: I hate it when...
Parents that first find out that they want to put the kids hair in a ponytail, when she is in the chair.
The ones that haven't figured out what they want when it is their turn (okay with the ones that just want them all, I find that sweet, but the ones that haven't started thinking about it)
Parents that want to take pictures in the chair, even when there is a long line.
I don't hate it, it just irritated me. But then again, it is not an everyday event, it is their time off, they can't be expected to think also.

Re: I hate it when...
I always wondered about the taking-pics-in-the-chair thing. Why is that such an issue I wonder? So many parents stop their kids from getting out, and take this shot and that shot while everyone is standing there waiting for their turn.
Re: I hate it when...
Sometimes the parents need a whooping more than the child..I had a mother grabbing my wipes..Like it was free for all..now I wanted to take her hand and slap it..I did give her the "stink look". I think she finally got it.
