New to the world of Bodypainting! Empty New to the world of Bodypainting!

Post by Ember Sat Nov 05, 2011 8:38 pm

Hello everyone, I'm Ember Smile

I'm a long-time costumer who has recently started dabbling in the field of bodypainting!
My newest costume is Aayla Secura, a Twi'lek Jedi from Star Wars. This is the character as she appears in the movie (can't post direct links, only urls to copy/paste because of new member restrictions sorry!):

I have a latex prosthetic head piece with the outfit, and use Snazaroo 'Sky Blue' paint. The same paint was used to paint the prosthetic, but it took about twice the amount of paint as there was on my body before the latex was evenly coated! When I get out of costume the prosthetic stays painted blue, I just do touch-ups where the paint may have rubbed off. There is an undercoat and overcoat of Ben Nye Final Seal, and I used my normal makeup over the top of the paint on my face (eyeshadow, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil). The paint was dabbed on with sponges in this shot which made the final outcome look nice and even, but took about 4.5 hours to do even with a helper!

Cut and paste for my gallery Smile

I've since painted myself with brushes and with the assistance of 2 helpers which took about 2 hours. Better, but still too long considering it's just 1 colour!

After a chat with a bodypaint artist, he pointed me towards TAG paint, and recommended loading up the paint on kabuki brushes and swirling it on, using mehron mixing liquid in place of water which would waterproof the paint and make the Final Seal unnecessary. Has anyone tried this method?

I also think the Snazaroo sky blue photographs too dark with indoor lighting so am currently contemplating TAG Light Blue. If anyone has any work where they've photographed TAG's Light Blue under both natural and artificial light I'd love to see it for colour reference!

I'm also considering getting the kabuki brushes recommended for bodypainting found here (cut and paste again, sorry!):

Any tips for this bodypainting newbie would be much appreciated! Smile
