Tips for round dots?
Any tips for good, round dots from brushes? My dots always come out as little diamond-shapes. My only round brushes are Loew-Cornell Comforts (I know, sad, but I'm just starting out), and the only way I can get round dots are by loading a good amount of paint on just the tip, which takes a loooong time -- and then, three dots later, I need to reload.
I doubt I'm doing it the right way, since Lisa Joy Young and Heather Banks and everyone else I've watched do dots on Youtube doesn't seem to reload every 3-4 dots -- and their dots are round.
Any advice on technique, method, brush, sponge, etc.?

Re: Tips for round dots?
Get a rubber tipped dotter from Hobby Lobby---they come in a multi-pack with blue handles. and you can very the dot sizes with just one.
Re: Tips for round dots?
I find it's a combination of having the paint the right consistency and having a brush with a tip that's not too pointed. I swear by my Mark Reid #4 brush for making perfect dots, and I always have a well in my white paint that is really wet. I load the entire bristles, not just the tip, and I can easily get 10-15 or more perfect round dots of varying sizes; the size depends on the pressure I use.
For getting the paint the right smoothness, you might want to try making a dippy pot.

I have a Snazaroo dotter but I wish I hadn't spent the money on it, I never ever use it.

Me too! I bought that dotter too but haven't used it. I agree. It's all about the paint and the pressure of the brush.
Re: Tips for round dots?
I would almost say exactly the same thing fabtastic, but I do sometimes use the snaz dotter, depends on my mood. Mine are always a bit bigger with the dotter, but they still come out round with a brush as long as I have the paint wet enough and load the brush to the ferrell. I can get littler ones with the brush, and like bigger ones with the dotter. I love a dippy pot for dots, both with the dotter and the brush!
Re: Tips for round dots?
I do the same thing w/ the dippy pot & my #4 round brush. I have the snaz dotter & only use it if I have to put eyes on a cheek art design.
Re: Tips for round dots?
If I need to have perfect and consistent circles, I use a qtip... otherwise, I just use my brush and don't worry all that much about perfectly round.
Re: Tips for round dots?
Try holding your brush straight 90 degrees from the face. Don't lay your brush down at all. Practice, practice, practice
Also, make sure your paint is thin enough, but not too thin to the point of running. I always check on my hand before I paint on the face
I can get a dot with just about any brush now. Practice makes perfect. Just make sure you remember that it's just face paint. It's not meant to be perfect for the price they are paying

Re: Tips for round dots?
I don't use anything special to make dots, just my brush and the paint no dippy pot. The key is the brush I think. I will use a style stix when I want uniformly sized pearls for like a princess crown or necklace.
Re: Tips for round dots?
You guys are right, guess I just love new toys...and if I am doing a bunch of dots I go too fast & get sloppy with a brush...or I grab one that had a bit of color in it & I want white white dots...
Re: Tips for round dots?
I forget about the end of the brush...there are good things you can do with that!
