Neon face paints
How many of you use neon color face paints on children? I purchased some diamond fx neon colors a couple of months ago but am hesitant to use them on children. Anyone have any problems with them? I've only used them on my own children and they love the vibrant colors. My kids did not have any skin reactions to them.

Re: Neon face paints
Why are you hesitant? They are just as safe as the essentials and all the other major brands out there. They are FDA compliant and perfectly safe.
It amazes me the hubbub some will raise over using a color or brand once on a person, but we don't think twice about the fact that we as painters come into contact with the paint day in, day out.
Your fine. Paint away!

Ditto Metina.
I don't know about Diamond FX, but I do know that the Wolfe neons say explicitely to not use around the eye, so I wouldn't put them, say, on someone's eyelid (just for safety's sake), but they're fine for everywhere else on the face or body...minus maybe the lips - does anyone have any info about neon paints FDA compliance for painting on the lips?

Re: Neon face paints
No idea why, though I sent them an email yesterday after I purchased a neon rainbow cake from Silly Farm - still waiting on a response. All I know is that it says on their website (under the FAQ section) that certain colors are not "approved" for use around the eyes, including all neon colors.
Re: Neon face paints
Reds typically should not be used around the eyes or mucus membranes - it is the pigments that are the hazard there. And lots of blues have warnings about not using on the mouth. This is for all cosmetics, not just face paints.
With the UV there may be an ingredient that can be irritating if it gets in contact with the eyes... You probably could find it in the MSDS as it would be listed. And go to the manufacturer to get that Wolfe has their's up on their website as a PDF.
I genenerally, on children, only use the UV on top of bases in the flat colours - like a litle UV pink on top of Snaz bright pink, etc. It is an accent not a base.

Re: Neon face paints
It states on the back of the Kryolan UV pots 'Not Intended for Cosmetic Application'. Yet Silly Farm did not have this on their dayglo Kryolan rainbow cake when I bought it from them. I don't know if they have it printed on there now. I try to put a base down before putting it on faces now.
I remember reading something about neon face/dayglo/UV paints a while ago. I'll check it out again and get back.

Yeah... I used to have some Kryolan DayGlo liquids that said "not for use on the skin" which sort of defeated the purpose!! It was used in hair and on fabric for a show so I managed to make use of it.
I use a lot of Fardel UV creams at the clubs but it is always on adults.

Re: Neon face paints
I found the page I was looking for:
http://www.facepaint-uk.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=420
It's from a Bibi Freeman's Facepaint-UK site and it's only about Diamond FX neons.
Basically it says 'not for cosmetic application' for legal reasons only BUT it is safe to use on.
So there you go. Legal issues strike again.

Re: Neon face paints
Still a little confusing the way it reads though. But good to know all the same. Thanks Glenda!
Re: Neon face paints
No problem. I just remembered reading it.
I found it a bit strange to read too.

Re: Neon face paints
Thank you for all your comments. I think I'll hold onto them a bit longer before using them on children.
